autox spring rate for 89 rex si
Searched, but couldn't find exactly what I was looking for (wish HT had full-text search). Looking for a spring rate recommendation for an auto-x only 89 crx si on revalved Konis. Need to let them know as I've already sent the shocks in to be revalved
I was thinking 600F/800R, but that might be a little too extreme. Oh, BTW, it's not a trailer queen so it will be driven to events, but that's the only street driving it will see. Will be lowered probably approximately 2 inches.

i would recommend even lower. try on a 300/400 combo. what gave you the idea 600/800, extreme is an understatement. my road race 450/900 suspension spins me out every time.
I have 300 on mine right now and still get too much nose dive. I know Allen Kuegler is running his 89 hf/si in the 400 range front and rear. (I do not know the specifics of his spring rates, he plays his hand tight to the chest). He has been the top finishing CSP Honda for the last 3 years at nats.

If you sent your shocks to Lee at Koni, ask him to do the SP SS revalve setup.
In 95 when they did mine, I told them that I was using H&R race and was going to still drive it to the track. It worked great, and they know the H&R rates.
If you use rated coils, 350/600 should work well. In Canada the courses vary so much in smoothness that I always need a compromise in spring rates, so H&R works for me.
BTW, Lee is setting up my 2 way adjustable revalves for my ITR, for Stock class...I can herdly wait.

I'm very happy with the 450F/550R setup on my CRX but I would shoot my self if I had to drive it on the street or to events. I would go with 300-350 front and about 400 rear to save some street-a-bility. You can always remove the front sway bar if this combo does not rotate as much as you would like.
600/800 is too extreme. For autocrossing you do not need or really want that much spring. The lots are rarely smooth so you would be skipping all over. I would go with 450 f / 550r with a good adj. rear bar. Additionally, unless you are getting the shocks shortened too, I would not lower it 2 inches. You will bottom the shocks out. I would go about 1.5 as a max.

i believe 600/800 was solo-x's setup, and he didnt like it. i tihnk its way too much spring up front. and if anything, its a road race setup.
Are you running any sway bars and if you are what size?

from experience, 600#'s isn't too much for the front of the car that weighs 2300lbs. with the rex being a couple hundred pounds lighter you might want to drop to 500's up front (for street comfort) and 600's out back. remember, your rear spring rate will effect ride quality much more then front spring rates.

edit: make sure you compare cars with similar suspension setups/geometry. a 22mm bar on my car is not the same as a 22mm bar on a crx.
