alternator removal
Take a 14mm socket, loosen the bolt that is on the slider which is holding the alternator, loosen the tension, unbolt the alternator and take off the electrical connections...
From what car? a CRX? A Civic? Which model?? I know that with my CRX DX I was able to just unbolt it and just wiggle it out but it would have came out from the bottom a bit easier...I have heard with the Si's you have to take off the brake MC to get it out or atleast move it to the side??
in my car you have to remove the master cylinder and i have a b18a...but i took one out of my friends dx the other day and i had to do the same thing eventhough there was a lot more room there was just not enough...
if you have a stock Si, you can pull it thru the driver side wheel well. with the alternator oriented with the pulley facing upwards and the bottom end pointed out, you can find the room to fit it out right above the axle. it does help to take out the lower shock bolt so you can push the axle down a bit more for more clearance. it works for both ND and mitsu alternators, although extra casing of the ND model makes it a bit more difficult. but both are definately doable. i swapped my alternator this weekend in less than 30 mins. then again ive done it a half dozen times now....
dont mess with your mastercylinder. id rather have no electricity than no brakes down the road.

k heres my setup
90 HB STD
SOHC VTEC engine
stock alternator
in order to remove it i tried various ways....
i dont like to mess up with the master cylinder, since its brakes, for some people its a pain., but actually its a essential part of the car that will actually save ur life a lot of times... so its something its not recomended to tamper with a lot...
anyways the easiets way for me to remove it , its to remove the 8 12mm bolts that holds the intake manifold... i just move the IM a lil to the side and remove the alternator between the MC and the engine.. works fine.. only draw back its thta u get a lil coolant on the floor.. no big deal....i have done this 5 times and it always works better , than bleeding the brakes and messing eith all that stuff afterwards///

I got the same problem, I got a DOHC in a 91 CRX. I think my alternator is out and i tried everything to take it out without taking anything off. Whats the easyest way to take one out?

easiest way to remove altenators is to unbolt it and take off the oil filter. then pull out towards the pass. side shock tower. You may have to remove some coolant lines to get it out. Make sure to clamp the coolant lines if you have to take em off.
Good Luck

As long as you are not really rough, you can take the master cylinder off. Just don't pull on it and go crazy on it. Then you can slide it out from the top, but its a pain trying to get it threw that little hole and holding it with one hand and your fingers keep getting in the way. Or you can remove the bottom alternator bracket ( which is a pain ) and slide it from the bottom. You will have to remove the side splash guard to. I think removing it from the passenger side would be the hardest cause then you have to drain all the oil, and loose some coolant too when you remove coolant hose. If you bring it up from the top just be gently with the master cylinder.

mine has been going out a lot since racing. its the constant high rpms that kill it i think. they sell larger pulley kits for the alternator just to underdrive it, and for the bling effect...
