Default 94 EX Civic - 95 Teg LS

During the summer I raced one of my friends and had a question.
I drive a 94 Civic EX with a d16z6 with a Ractive header, cold air intake, and muffler. I got 2 1/4 in. exhaust, and cleaned out cat. I raced my friend with a 95 Teg. LS With an InJen intake and an off brand muffler. We both have 17 in. Motegi MR-7's. We raced in about 80 degree weather, and he beat me by only about half a car length. We both weigh about 170 and were the only one's in our cars. I have 130,000 miles on my civic, and he has 90,000 miles on his Teg. Is this right? We are both good drivers, and I just wondered why he barely beat me.
Just wondering

Switch cars. You will find the better driver that way, well usually.

One thing I noticed was we got bad wheel hop the first run. But when we raced again we ran through all 4 gears , he hit his 4th gear while I was running at about 6000 rpm in 3rd gear, I actually started pulling on him when he shifted.

Well your car stock is exactly 200 pounds lighter than your friends. However there are so many variables is hard to pinpoint. Not every motor coming out of the factory is gonna have perfect specs. I had a 95 Dx coupe that beat every 5th gen vtec it came across. Could be Im a little older and have much more driving experience than my competitors or I got a little stronger than factory motor (before mods of course). Thats two variables in a hundred.

Well I figured out of the factory, normally a teg like his would beat a civic like mine.

the LS motor is much stronger. Hell I think it is a better drag racing motor than a B16.

When I first bought my 99 EX, I ran 15.997 @ 85mph with intake and exhaust. My little sister has a 95 LS with no motor mods. She had her 17 inch wheels on with crappy Paradas and all her bullshit that girls keep in their cars and she ran 15.8 @ 89 pretty easily.

The LS should be stronger but you should be able to hang close. Hell I had beat GSRs for the short time I had my single cammer. Switch cars.
