Default 1.8L D series? Anyone ever....

Anyone ever bore out a D16Z6 for any D series blocks to 81mm to run the ls rods and pistons, how much can you bore these Ds out? That may be cheaper than rebushing the rods, just checking to see what the tolerneces are.

The most a D series should EVER be bored out is 79mm. Even then this bore is so large, it would require the block to be resleeved.

77mm is the largest I would go with N/A on stock sleeves. It's around a 1.7L with that.

you should resleeve with anything over 1mm, most you can go is 81.25mm, the only thing that is a problem is when you screw up your block, you can't just get it resleeved because there is no room for error. D blocks are cheap anyway, so go for it

since we talking about beefing up a D series block....
what would be the best OEM D series , or better said the strongest and well design rods, and pistons??
i have read a few times that the Z6 rods seem to be the better and well design ones.. can anybody confirm that.....
also when it comes to pistons.....

more info on how to beef up a D series block will be very helpfull..i bet a lot of people will be interested.. lets keep this treat getting the good info....

i dont know if the z6 rods are any better than say an a6 rod, but he z6 rods arent very big. they can take soem abuse though. I wouldmt put over 200 hp on them.

I have heard (emphasize on heard) of a GX civic. 0ne that burns natural gas. it has the same wrist pin diameter as an LS engine. So i assume the rod itself is beafier also? , anyways these pistons / rods yield a super high compression in a z6.

that woudl be the only d series that might have a stronger rod. other than that i would think that the rods vary.

Well, apparentyly you can use LS rods with the d16 pistons, but have to rebush where the piston pin goes to accept the 19mm piston pin. The ls has a 21mm piston pin. Those are really decent rods, I just happened to have a set. All I want to do is throw some boost, and be safe to 200-225hp, and I think the ls rods should do that for me. However, rebushing can be expensive, I think you also have to shave a little off the top end of the rod to or something, we shall see. I would love to throw the whole ls piston/rod combo in though. Any other ideas on cheap building?

on the topic of rods...A6, Z6, and Y8 are all the same part number.

Is anyone running the LS rods in the Dseries? I mean wouldnt there be length problems with this setup?

They are the same length as a D series. The only difference is the pin diameter is different. You have to get them rebushed for D series pins.

when boring out the block, do u also have to bore out the bottom of the head too? (where the head meets the top of the cylinders... do u know what i mean?)

how much does a boring job cost on average? I wish i had some cnc machines at home

That would be enlarging the combustion chamber. That topic has been discussed in FI many times and some people will say that it just makes sense, but many say it is not necessary. If and when I get my b16 sleeved, I am going 84mm and I wont have the chamber enlarged.

You guys are right about the LS rods being 2mm bigger for the wrist pins. They are also about 2 mm bigger on the BE Width of the rod if I remember right. So just shave 1 mm each side, and then their ready to go onto your D-series journals.

Anyone have some specs/info on those GX pistons?

Just checked the BE Width of the rods....and I was right...

Z6, A6, etc BE Width is 0.892", and the LS one is 0.935".
So you need to trim the LS rods to make it fit.
