Default 88-91 crx/civic distributor question

anybody ever have a distributor go out on them in their stock d16a6/d15 crx/ ef civic? i heard that its the sensor within the distributor that goes bad therefore making the whole dist. bad. it also affects the potential to pass smog to my understanding...Has this ever happened to anyone? and what did you guys do if so?

If you have an internal coil, then your coil is bad. If external coil, then your ICM is bad. The number 1 thing I hate about honda is their ignition system.
