Default B16a sir2 difference with B18C1 worth the money? Help please

AAAAAggggghhhhhhhh.....Help.
Today is the day I order my engine. I think. Was going to go with a b18c1 with lsd motor but the thought of spending all that extra money for some torque freaks me out!

Simply put are the benefits worth it? My main function for this motor is autox first drag second. It's going into a 93 SI Hatch.

Please for Gods sake help me.
Thanks guys

Thanks man. While I was waiting for an answer I continued with my searching and found that about 99.8% of the ppl on this board feel the same way.

I think I was just freaking out. Motor..suspension...exhaust...rims tires, it all starts building up rather quick and I know I could just buy a civic allready done, but Im just not that kind of guy. Not to knock anyone but theres nothing like putting a car togethor yourself...its what its all about!

Well I did it!!!! Ordered the B18c5 today. First confusion, now jubilation! Im so stoked I cant stand it.

I know its not the meglamaniac horsepowered motor in the universe, but it should fit my needs perfectly (crossing fingers)

Now i just need to figure out the exhaust situation. Thinking about 2.5 in pipe, test pipe but not sure on the muffler. Heard that these motors make more noise than the stock si motor and want something loud of course but not deafening (I actually like my neighbors).

Any suggestions guys?

i just ordered my JDM B18C (Integra GSR) motor with LSD today. i'm swapping it into my '92 Si.
i should be getting it here in about 5 to 6 days. i mostly race auto-x but i'm also gonna take it to the strip every now and then.

good luck with your swap.

Well me and my bro were actually looking to get simular set-ups. Talked with Osaka Motors and got a pretty decent price, but I started reading alot of bad things that are happening at osaka right now. We really wanted to go with them but were talking alot of flow with two engines.

So we went with Japan Motor Import per the suggestions of some Honda Tech guys. Paid 3900 for each motor full swap. What I thought was cool of these guys ( and maybe all companies do this) is they provide you with the complete swap for your car. With the B18C5 motor there are some issues using the itr intake manifold with a p28 ecu and they got us covered on that and some other things. Guy swears we have everything we need I guess I will find out next week.

Yeah and were all on a budget but damn I figured I would put bolt ons and cams and such this summer to the c1 and that would get more expensive than the c5 real quick!

Im so freakin stoked...first was gonna turbo the si then maybe b16 now this. Btw got a full Greddy kit for sale not given it away but prob can get it for a decent price to any of the HT guys.

Blazinsi congrats on your purchase it should be perfect for autox. Alot of guys will tell you run your car for acouple years before you go to a larger engine and they are right but mostly in the case of cars just racing autox.

Blazin Si Maybe I will contact you as were putting these things in to avert problems that might come up should be real simular swaps.

But damn were Honda guys and building are cars for autox, Drags and kicking gas mileage.

BTW as far as my budget goes I am one of those old guys so my budget is more than when I was young guy. That sounded stupid sorry.

Blazin Si whats your set-up? And what would you change? I sold my 95 DX which was my autox car. Believe it or not the suspension worked great together. Matrix coilovers (got them becuase they were so cheap) KYB AGX struts, upper and lower front and rear strut bars (DC copys) and 205 50 15 falken azenis.

My thoughts are to run a simular set-up except maybe a little more stiffness in the front to compensate for the heavier engine (?). And possibly some wider tires and 13 or 14 in rims. Its all kinda confusing.

What size exhaust are you running with the b18?

And yeah I will probably be talking to you on the swap its my first in a long time and first in a front wheel drive car.

Well, you're not the only one out there who decided on a B18C5. So did I. I too was thinking about a B18C1. But like yourself, I saw that, contrary to what most think, it actually costs MORE to buy a B18C1 and mod it to equal a B18C5 than it costs to just buy a B18C5 in the first place. And while it may not be the most powerful Honda motor out there, it is certainly no weakling. Regardless, I don't think you will find yourself wishing you just got a B16A.

I went with a JDM GSR and i'm glad i did. I can brake to like 30-40mph and still stay in 5th gear and accelerate faster than most traffic. In my old V8 Chevy Caprice that was imposible cuz it would just ping and knock like crazy.

my set up is Progress springs and Tokico shocks with Rota Slipstreams and 205/50/15 Nitto NT450's. i bought these tires before i started autocrossing and they've lasted a lot longer than i had hoped. i'm waiting for them to wear out so i can get a set of Falkens.

a buddy of mine does lots of swaps and is a very good autocrosser/road racer and he recommended stiffer springs up front to compensate for the added weight. he also said to get a rear sway bar, which is next on my list of mods. i'll probably end up getting Progress coilovers in the future because i'm really happy with the quality of the springs i've had on my car. my buddy also uses this suspension set up on his race cars.

for my exhaust... i buying a 5zigen header and high flow cat, which will work with 2.5" 5zigen Fireball exhaust i already have on my car. i plan to keep my car all motor, so 2.5" diameter seems to be about the perfect size for this set up.
