JDM HID ABS Will It Fit With No Problems?
Hey guys, i just purchased a JDM Conversion with HID's..(OEM)...I have a 1995 GSR with the large ABS thingy...Will it fit? If not, what do i have to do?!
im pretty sure you are going to have to relocate the hid balast (sp?) . i have a 98 , newer style abs thing , and the barely fit infront of that .

no, you won't have to relocate the ballast with a 00 gsr, but you might have to bend some of the ac pipes on the driver's side but no big deal.
How hard is it to take the ballast off, is there wires exsposed? Where should i mount it? If anyone has any pictures id be helpful! IM me directly if you have exp with this. Anyway i can just use a new abs unit?

i have not taken off the ballast but have heard of people doing this.. and having messed with the lightin and wiring on teh hid's and not hid's i cant be 100% sure of course, but i doubt that the relocating would be too difficult. But you may have to lengthen the wires a bit to have it work.
As for replacing the abs unit with the newer one, i can't tell you much, but i kno that the abs unit costs a pretty penny so.. i dunno if you would wanna go thru all that.. and i also recal hearing somewhere that you would have to replace some of the hardpipes with the newer ones too. can't be sure tho.

I am not willing to replace my ABS with a newer 98 unit. But i do want to move my ballast. Someone told me its not good for it? What can be harmed? Will it affect lighting? What are the possable drawbacks of this? Let me know..

i don't see why there would be any draw backs at all... just make sure all the lines are well protected from moving parts, or parts that could get hot, and tied away from such parts. Make sure there is no bare wire, if there is cover it up wit some electrical tape or use some heat shrink tubing. But really i dont see any detrimental effects to relocating... wit the older style large abs.. i don't think u have much choice.
I read on another site, that when he lenghtend the wires, he smelled burning? but he said it coulda been the diffrent gauge of the wire when he exstended the housing?
most likely the burnin was becuase he was using the wrong guage wiring... i used 18 guage wiring on my roomates car and so far so good.... no burning smell no flicker no dimness at all. I kno i didnt relocate the ballast, but i did have to splice n dice the wires for power and i needed a little extra slack so i put in some but no burning smell like i said.
i would need to take another look at the ballast but if i recall, the cspeed racing integra relocated the ballast into behind the fender area or sumthing... but as far as the weatherproofing, i doubt it will be anything more than you can handle really. I think people are alot more intimidated by the wiring and all when there really isnt a need to be.
yup, i just took off the entire ballast, and there is absolutly no way i can modify it to just exstend..there will be major moisture problems, on top of big wiring modificiations..is there anyway, i can just push my abs back? And bolt it closer to the strut wall
