Default Car running cold.

After months of normal operation my sohc ZC is acting a bit weird. The temp guage will be fine if im driving hard, but then dips down about 1/2 way between cold and off if Im driving normal. At some points it is all the way cold.

Thermostat? Other ideas?

I would say start with the simple things and replace the thermostat as you already said. Otherwise is your fan running all the time when the car is on?? I know that my GF's car overheated last winter cause her fan wasnt kicking on and I found out that the motor was fried so I went and picked one up and now the dang thing runs all the time I have been too lazy to check her fan switch but I know lately (especially how cold its been up here) her car hasnt been having the greatest heat either its still heat but not as hot as it use to be......

Same problem with both of my Civics and Integra. Coolant temp Sensor. It only happened in the winter time for me though on the civics, integra did it year round.

Most likely is a stuck open thermostat, sounds like exactly the problem I was having with my d16a6.
