Default Running rich and lean?

OK what gives. I checked the condition of my spark plugs last nite and one was pretty dark brown (rich) one was rather white (lean) and the other two seemed to have just a light brown color (good a/f ratio) how the hell can this be? Car's running fine, slightly high idle, average is about 950, but I think it's because I'm due for a valve adjustment. Last dyno tuning I showed a pretty even a/f ratio of 13.5 and now I'm confused as to why the plugs seem to be operating differently. I think I'll just try putting four new ones in and see how they react. Has anyone even seen anything like this before?

you did do a wot run and shut the engine off right afterwards and THEN checked
the plugs right??

No, the motor was cooled down for about an hour.

then you have no basis to get an accurate reading from the spark plugs.
any time spent idling or cruising will skew your results.
plugs must be checked IMMEDIATELY following a wot pass

thanks i'll check them like that. but doesn't it seem strange to have such signifigant discoloration between plugs even after the engine has cooled? I'll do a WOT pass and check them immedietly, thanks again

does that WOT run have to hit vtec or doing it just for a second is enough?

thats weird that you would check your spark plugs after your engine is hot from WOT. metal expands when hot and then when hood is open the cold air from winter might make it harder to put spark plug back. its winter time so hopefully you check fast

Thanks for the info SgT. I checked one of my plugs yesterday for the first time (35k miles on b16a2) and the plug had a greyish/white color to it. I had started the car a few hours before and idled for 15 minutes. Car is not really driven in winter..
