The OPM Accord is a Friggin Horse
I drove this car for 3 days at the Roebling racing school this past weekend. What a horse of a car this thing is. I'd say I put at least 5 hours of seat time on the car and it never even blinked. It was a hoot to drive as well. A little loose in 40 degree temps (with drizzle), but otherwise neutral and easy to drive fast.
I never really "pushed" the car hard because it was a school and not a race, but was still running 1:28s in the dry (on Hoosiers AND Toyos... go figure). That car can easily do 1:27s there in the hands of a competent driver.
Unfortunately SCCA has fallen victim to politics again and moved the car to ITA where it has no chance (too heavy, family sedan gearing), but if you only plan to run Honda Challenge or HPDE this is a GREAT car. In the hands of a decent driver it will absolutely dominate H5.
Because of the move to ITA the sale price has been reduced to $6500. You couldn't remotely build a car like this for that much money. The cage alone (and it's a monster cage) would cost over $2K.
Over 5 hours of track time, race conditions, and all my crew really did all weekend was rotate and swap tires, put gas in it, and clean the windshield. On Friday I kept asking Chris ("Pit Boss") questions about brakes, set-up, how much gas to keep in the tank, etc. He just kept saying "It's the Accord, don't worry about it. Just drive it." By Sunday I realized this was totally true. "Just drive it." Great car.
BTW - Finished 2nd in ITA out of 13 cars in the practice race. Qualified 11th of 40 in the group. I had a little experience on most of those guys, but that's still nothing to sneeze at.
Somebody needs to buy this car. Really.

This really is a way cool car. It is easier to drive than my car (to the grid
) and the thing felt like it still had brakes!!! What the hell is up with a Honda race car with a brake pedal on day three???? Honestly speaking, if I wanted to just run HC races, this would be atop my list of cars - inexpensive, rugged as the Marlboro man, stout as hell for its HC class (hell, Giles drove it like it was a bonefide A car
) and it still had brakes on day three (and yes, I know it's Roebling but Giles drove it for three days and it still had brakes
)!!! Plus, a very stout looking cage and its got that trick display panel for the guages - mmmmm, guage panel
Honestly, it was fun to see this car out there 11th on the grid amidst SPO/ITS/GT1 cars and a couple of us got a huge giggle on Sunday when all the big cars were blipping motors and such and these two leeeeetle OPM yeller cars (Trevor gridded 4th was something to call home about - hell, I did call home about it
) buzzed out in the middle of them to take their spots.
Great show all and I got to admit that I was stoked as hell to see 15 ITA cars out there with hopes that some or most of them will come out to play this year.

Now just what the hell is THAT supposed to mean?
I like to drive in a little deep. So what? I only flatspotted a few tires. Nothing compared to the display Ol' Squaretires put on at CMP last year.
Now Trever's (Chuck's) car was a thoroughbred. That new motor is a honey. We'd come out of turn nine nose to tail and I couldn't even stay close enough to hold the draft to the starter stand. Giddyup!!!

Nothing bad. Just saying it was driven hard for three days and it still had brakes. Hell, my car usually doesn't have brakes after putting it on the trailer three times

HEY! EASY, duuude.
I got that fixed, remember? Heck, by VIR I had gone from WAY too much rear brake to NO BRAKES anywhere!
Can't flat spot 'em if ya can't stop 'em.
Somebody does need to buy this car and come out and play - even if you won't win ITA, it's still fun to come out and play because it's a hell'ova feeling to actually beat more competitive cars knowing you're the underdog. I can tell ya that. You may not win but there's always someone to race against. And like Giles said, if you run ECHC you could rule H5 with this car (as long as I don't show up
). I'm definitely looking for a rematch with that purple people eater at Lowes - I split one outa' two with that Accord but Chris got fastest lap - I want another shot! SOMEBODY buy this car!
