Default What causes the drive belts to squeal?

It only happens for a couple seconds when I first start the car. All belts are brand new. What causes this?

could be too tight or too loose. Usually too loose. tighten them up a bit and see if it stops. Also try some belt dressing.

your alternator belt is not tightned enough. Make sure you get the right size and have enough room to tight it more. Do not get something too small and squeeze it in cause that'll break the belt in couple months.

does the "belt" whine when you turn your steering wheel? is it worse when you're parked and turn the wheel?

if so, it might not be your belt, it may be the power steering pump making noise...seals and bearings can wear out in the pump causing it to make that whining sound.....just like Ford's do, they whine like hell....

The alternator belt was loose. The noise is gone now. Thanks
