Question YS1??
I have a 95 gsr in my 91 crx si and i bought a YS1 trans and i think its LS gearing In 1st gear at 4000rpm i am at 17mph, in second at 4000rpm i am at 30mph and 3rd at 4000rpm i am at 45mph. now could someone with an LS YS1 check and tell me if i really do have one and i am looking for a J1 or S1 for better gear but all the other ones have higher rpm at same speed i guess thats good could someone please explain. Other i read that a Ls top speed is much higher than an J1 or S1 y and is that good? Thanks
whats your cruising (5th gear) rpm @60 / 70 / 80mph?
if you're at around 4000 @ 68-72mph then it should be a GSR YS1, while a LS would be doing closer to 80-85mph

YS1 from the GSR has much closer gearing than an LS(Y1), and it also has dual synchros on 2nd gear...pretty much all the trannys from the VTEC motors are meant for a sportier engine I believe...and yes I believe the Y1 does have a higher top end, just not as much in the acceleration dept.
I am goin to get my 5th gear speeds and rpm's tomorrow or wed since its snowing in jersey but do u guys think i have a LS or a GSR trans cause i feel like the acceleration is really bad..

DANG !!!! I knew my 1st gear on my US B17 YS1 tranny was SHORT, but I didnt realize it was shorter than the Type R's!!!
No wonder I spin the tires too easily in first in my 90 U.S. B17 CRX HF
I should have saved this rare YS1 tranny for my heavier DA that I just picked up!!!
I would take a short geared JDM YS1 or the B17 U.S. short geared YS1 any day over the JDM S1, J1, or Y1's.
The S1, J1, and Y1 (JDM) seem to be not as durable than the "newer" 2nd gen cable trannys.
By the way BRYANT, thanks for that Link, I had that in my Favorites awhile back and lost it....now I have it again

I have an S1 and mile hwy mileage sux. but thats not too big of an issue.
it is just common sense that the wider gearing in the LS tranny will give you a higher top speed (provided your speed limiter is removed) than a j1 or s1. I am guessing that the top speed of my s1( according to the speedo is around 145 before my rev-limiter kicks in. I have taken it up to almost 130 @6800.

*My Official 93 GSR YS1 gear:rpm:mph field study*
I did a little research on the way home from work.
7:40PM on I-40, temp 40F, 195/60/14 tires, oem tach
45 mph
3rd = 4500
4th = 3300
5th = 2700
55mph
3rd = 5250
4th = 4000
5th = 3200
70 mph
3rd = 6900
4th = 5050
5th = 4
80 mph
3rd = 7950
4th = 5750
5th = 4700
*Note: My tach may be off a bit. My Vision chip has the vtec x-over set at 5200, but according to my tach it is at 4750...:shrugs: You can decide for youself. Hear is another little tranny spec page...here.

So u guys say say i have longer gearing than other tranny's but the thing is i don't understand i have lower rpm's are the same speed i guess that not good Could someone please explain this??

Longer or taller gears account for the engine turning lower rpms.
Shorter gears account for the engine turning higher rpms.
Is that what you are looking for?
Yea i understand, Quick question does anybody agree that i have an LS for sure will my gearing..
Does anybody have a good tranny around the jersey new york area, i could get a S1 J1 for 550$ anybody got a better deal???
