DIY cpillar bar
hey guys, finally got off my lazy college butt and got some supplies from lowe's, went home, and started working on this bar. anyway. The bar was like $9 or so, its 3/4" galvanized steel and the channeled bracket was laying around in the basement. I haven't had good enough weather to really check it out. The neuspeed race's, front , rear, rear lower tie, and swaybars has stiffened everything up, and im really excited to push the c pillar. I can actually do pullups on the bar, so I think it should stabalize the car pretty well. i should have taken a pic from my rearview to show how it does not get in the way, but maybe next time.
here are some pictures...comments welcome...
not only is it a great bar, but a great coat hanger!
whatcha think about the foam? i sat in the back and it makes for a good head rest.
heres the channeled brace.
as for rear passengers, it makes a great headrest, just gotta take it easy if i ever have to use the back seats.
im interested to hear from anyone else who've put a cpillar bar in w/ some similiar suspension mods to decide if it's 'too stiff' if there is such a thing, or how they liked it. see ya cats.

Are you saying you put galvanized steel in your car... for a stiffer suspention . and you ask is there too stiff, yea well 1400 lb springs and 28 mm bars, yes there is. But what are you using it for??
Depends on how YOU want your car to drive. Everyone is different.

for the record- da's ( and db's ) usually have 19mm ( rear ) sway bars, as opposed to the heavier dc2's 22mm. they do make a 22mm for the da, but it required custom fitting, and i dont think it would have fit with my lower tie and exhaust.

for the bracket i used a piece of channeled extrusion and made a template first , then cut off the channeled parts for the bend, then bent it to the template. not sure where you can find it, but im sure any strong aluminum from hq would work. but the galvanized steel is $9 from lowes. i got 3/4" by 4', but did require a little trimming. hth. thanks for comments, but has anyone done a bar and noticed too much? im anxious to geto ut there and take some turns.
wow dan that turned out really well....sucks to live in ohio, eh? i think you and i might have to maybe develop a g3 kit...what do you think?

What is this for? I've seen a carbon fiber one on e-bay. I liked to see results and hear results about this c-pillar and trunk brace. Anyone can drill holes and bolt up bars to them, but does is it worth putting the time into it?
hey the bar looks great. one question tho, what size is the angle for the mount, and if you woulndt mind could you send me the template? i have access to a metal shop at school and ive been thinking about doing this.
review:
today was a decent enough day to test the bar out, so i did just that. I took my roomate out for some cds and found some highway turns ( where are you scott? ) anyway, the bar stiffened the hell out of everything up. it is definately an improvement, especially with stiff springs like neuspeed race. anyway, im sure he'll poke his head in here and give us an impression.
as for the template, its for a db so im not sure if its the same as a dc2. just get some soft metal and make your own, not hard. i used a 1/2" drill bit though for the 17mm that holds the seatbelt on.

I have been summoned?
Yea, the ride was great... handles real well! I don't know whether it was the new Springs (Neuspeed Race) or the C-pillar bar, or both. But the thing definately has a different feel to it, even as a passenger... almost no body roll. And that's my review, now back to the EG forum

im having a hard time finding those channeled brackets...u have anymore info on them or where i can get them? and what i should ask for?
this weekend i will look more into where you can buy the channeled bracket. realize it is very thick and you definitely have your work cut out for you if you do not have a powered hack saw. it is very thick and very hard to bend, but that is why i decided to use it. it was lying around in my basement, but im sure it would be at a Lowe's or HQ's in the piping/metal section. thats how i found the bar, just by cruisin through Lowe's.
dremel disks will eat right through that ****. when you find a place that sellls the channeled bracketing let us know. also did you have to use a larger bolt on the seatbelt harness because of the added space of the channeled bracket? thanks
