Default anyone else have this happen to?

ok my friend has a 97 civic ex....i have a 99 Si....

i have no idea how this works, but with a jiggle of his key it takes him about 2 minutes to unlock my car, and about 15 seconds to start it. WITH HIS KEY HE STARTS MY CAR!!!

my key didnt work in his car, but it is his key cuz he starts his car right up, and he can just jiggle the key and turn the steering wheel and within 15 seconds my car is started...

just wanted to know if this is a common problem and if it any of you can do this to your friends cars...maybe this is why god damn Si's are the 4th most stolen car

I think thats pretty common. MY old worn out key for my 89 hatch(r.i.p.) used to open just about any 4th generation civic door. Scary

do you honestly think this is a new topic to thieves. i guess now all car thieves are going to stop using thier usual methods, so that they can use this brand new idea and just go around jiggling keys in random cars.

This is crazy! I thought the VIN # thing was bad, but this is over the edge!
I never new this. I'm going to get my friend to try his 92 Cx key in my 93 Cx and I'll do the same to his. If it works I'm going to f**kin' flip!!!

I guess new key holes are the only solution?

Scary!

BTW >>> No reason to hide / avoid the truth! If this can be done this is something we should all know about! I'm glad I read this thread and god help if it's true

My friend can open and start my other friends car the same way you just described, one has a 91 CRX and the other one has an 89 Civic hatchback.... weird....

You guys are all such pussies. Like ANY thief would give 2 flying F'cks if SOME keys fit SOME other cylinders.

there is nothing wrond with this post other than the fact that people are suprised by this.... it's call lock picking and you don't need an old honda key to do it. it doesn't even have to be a honda.... or a car for that matter.

Stop being such a bunch of homo's with the... "dude thieves could be reading this"

Chance are thieves are busy THIEVING. (probobly checking out you dope honda right now lol)

I am not surprised, and that's not just Honda that you are able to do that with... Ford, GM (my mom discovered she can use the same key for her 1970 Buick skylark as she does for the 86 Buick Regal)

Oh and to those that are scared don't buy a boat... I used to work at a boat dock, and boats generally only use somewhere around 21 different keys, and that is IT. Someone with a master set can walk around and start up your boat and drive off. Of course with a waverunner most of em dont have keys, neither do dirtbikes etc. BUT that is kinda sorta off topic...

I don't know that changing the locks out will do much good, as they all have similar tumbler/pin design hence why several keys by coincidence work in diff. cars. My key for the Civic doesnt fit in the CX, nor vice versa... I haven't tried anyone else's car, but then again I don't really care to.

I knew this to be true about Ford's and some other domestics, but I didn't know that about Honda...stupid Honda reusing locks... I guess it's hard to make completely different locks for every single Honda out there...infact, I think it's damn near impossible.

Car manufacturers have tend to run out of different key combinations, there are tons of cars out there with the same key, I know GM replicates keys every 20,000 cars produced. Some keys are really similar, so you can use them on other cars with a little bit of force.

everyone, get shaved keyholes... not only will your car look cleaner, but people won't be able to jiggle sh*t in there.

Thieves could have my keys, the car still won't start if they don't know the magic word...
