simply put.

dual voice coil speakers allow you to change up your wiring configuration so you can possibly get more out of your amp.

for instance. @ 2 ohm, your amp can push almost double the power, to get 2 ohm impedence, you could wire 2 4 ohm speakers, or simply purchase a dual voice coil (2 Ohm) single speaker.
