question on civic HB? Anyone???
I am wanting to buy a civic hatchback. I was wondering what was the first year they put the VTEC in them? Also what model has the VTEC and what engine it has. Thanks.
are you looking for a car to swap an engine into or do you want to build up a SOHC. I reccomend getting a 92-95 or 96-00 hatch then swaping a b18c5 or h22 engine respectivly. i believe the 92-95 Si's had VTEC and the vx's i think have VTEC but im not sure.

1993: civic vx and si have VTEC.
1994: same as 1993
1995: same as 1994
no US model hatchbacks ever came with VTEC after 1995.
Do you know what engine the 92-95 have? I am wanting a car to build up for my drag strip. Just want a car I can take to the track and have fun with. Something i can strip out and dont have to worry about appearance. Thanks.

if I buy a 92-95 how hard is it to swap a h22a into it. Do you have to swap the computer too? What all has to be changed with it?
you have to swap the computer on ANY engine swap.
wow, you are pretty new at this i take it.
yes, you will need to get a new transmission. this is included with an engine swap though.

that is what you want if you want a drag racer. you can see the list of everything that engine comes with.
you will probably want a shop to do this swap, it is pretty involved. you will need to buy a hasport mount kit (www.hasport.com) and modify the wire harness. check out http://hybrid.honda-perf.org for more information on engine swaps. good luck

HOW MUCH MONEY WILL YOU BE WILLING TO SPEND ON THIS CAR?
That's the first question you need to answer. Until then none of us can really help you.
H22A?
There are other options out there that can and will perform as well or better with no need for a mount kit.
Answer the first question and then we'll see how we can help you.

good point. you will probably be spending about 5-8 g's depending on which engine you get and have installed. if you have no clue what you are doing then i reccomend getting a shop to install it. especially if its an h22. so mow much you gonna spend.
well after doing some research last night I have come to realize that buying a car of that year and make will not be a good idea. I figure if i buy a civic HB in or around 92-95 I will be spending somewhere around $3 to $ 5 G's. And after a swap like we were talking about I would be in it a ways over $ 10,000. And I really didn't want to spend that much. So what I juess I am wanting to know is what you people think a good vehicle to start up a project with would be and some info on doing it. I was thinking also on buying a CRX since I can find one for a lot less than I can a civic HB. Like I said before I am looking for a project not a show car. Just something to build and learn from. I was thinking on spending around $1500 to $2000 for the car or so and after i get the car over a period of time spending $ 4000 or so on the engine. I have seen so many pictures of all kinds of honda's at tracks all over the world and all of them run different **** and run at different levels. I am not wanting to run 10 sec. ets or nothing just would like to dip in to the 12's or 13's. Like I said something to have FUN with. Isnt this what we all are looking for, FUN. Thanks.
you can get a decent 92 hatch for about 2000. its prewired for vtec so a swap is simple. i would reccomend that over getting a CRX. i think they are ugly but thats my opinion.

so the H22a will fit in there with no major mods, or cutting? And what do you mean when you say they are prewired for VTEC's. Are you saying all the plugs and ETC is already there. So all the plugs on the H22a will plug right in?
Given the ammount of money your wanting to spend, I would suggest an 88 CRX HF. Then swap you a D16A6 or Z6 in. Then spray 75shot dry.
you can find 88 Hfs broken and lonely for 500-1300 all day long. I would get it, then gut the **** out of it. Bone stock it weighs something like 1890. So take 150 pounds out of it and youll be set. An 88HF with a sohc motor and minor mods + " da gass" is very very very capable of 14s.
I would say 13's but I dont feel like gettting bitched at by the dohc ppl on HT
NOTE: /me covers my ***
I ran 14 flat in my old 88si. I had quite a few things done but, still.. .
good luck..
