Just installed my comptech exhaust. [pic]
Installed my Comptech SS catback exhaust yesterday on my 00 GSR. Now everyone told me I wouldn't be able to get the bolts off the cat. I guess I proved them all wrong.
Just used a wrench and gave it all I could and it worked. Saved me a few bucks not having a shop do it and I'd rather do it myself.
I know it's been posted before but, this exhaust is worth every penny I paid for it. Granted I got it for $475 used for one month, from a fellow HT member. I think after hearing it I would have bought it eventually online somewhere. It's not a buzzy exhaust at all. It's really deep but, not as deep as my friends impreza exhausts.
Sounds good on the freeway at 60-70. With the music barely on you really can't hear it till you get on it.
One question... when a car cools down the exhaust sometimes makes the pinging nosies as everything cools down. Last night after I drove around for the first time I got some LOUD pings from the exhaust. I mean it sounded like someone was firing a bb gun at it. Will it eventually go away? Maybe, a bolt is too tight/loose? Any ideas? Anyway here is a comparison pic I took.

looks nice! My header always has 1 loud pinging sound when it cools along with other pinging sounds. I haven't had a problem with it, it should be ok...
I wouldn't mind just one ping noise but, there was at least 4. I even heard one at a stop light which was weird. Small price to pay for this exhaust though.
the diameter of the pipe is smaller than the stock, so isnt the muffler, what size is the comtechs?
Ya I know... It basically looks like stock just in stainless steel... Should of gotten the thermal RD if u want stainless steel and some series HP. But it looks good. With the pinging sound I think there might be something inside the pipping or the muffler. Try taking apart one section at a time and shaking it to see if something got stuck in it like a rock or bolt.
The piping is NOT smaller than stock, and the muffler is straight-through. Comptech and its design, according to articles on Team-Integra's website (www.team-integra.net) is a good option for up to 210 whp. Over that, you need larger piping.
I get pinging from my Comptech header and exhaust too. Concerned me at first, but now its just like, whatever. No problems.

Yeah, the piping is bigger than stock. Kind of hard to see from the picture considering it went from 1.75 to 2.25. It flows alot better than stock as well. I don't plan on putting a supercharger/turbo on this car so this exhaust will do just fine. I'll end up getting the comptech header and icebox to go along with it.
About the pinging... how loud does yours ping? It sounds like it is coming from the axle back part of the exhaust. How tight should those spring bolts be tighten down? Maybe, they are too tight? hmm

It should be good to about 180whp, not 210
Looks like a Magnaflow muffler and resonator. If you don't mind me asking, how long is the resonator? Also, is that a 4x9 oval muffler or 5x8?
Out of curiosity, what is the OD of the piping and flange that mates to the cat? Is it 2.25" ?
Lastly, can you post a pic of it installed? Looks good!

looks good, the pinging noise is usually the metal expanding/contracting due to the temp.
happens all the time, especially after higher temp runs. nothing to worry about.

Well, I don't have the time to take new pics of the exhaust installed. I'll measure and take some new pics in a day or so. I do have a few more pics to show more of a comparison of the two exhausts. Now these are shitty pics ( I was shaking from the cold weather and trying to use a digicam
) Anyway...
About the pinging.. I know an exhaust will ping as the metal cools but, this is not your average ping. It's not every few seconds but, maybe once every 30-40 secs and I hear about 3-4 of them. I parked at the very back of a target parking lot and heard my exhaust ping right before I went in the store. It was early in the morning so it was pretty quiet but, damn.

$626 is what they cost at tracracingparts.com http://www.tracracingparts.com/catal...roducts_id=217
I don't know if that's the cheapest around but, it was cheaper than diablo. If I wouldn't have found it used I would have probably bought it from here.
About the pinging... I don't know if this would cause it but, from the cat to the exhaust pipe I stripped one of the bolts. So it's only held on by two bolts right now until I take it in a replace the stripped bolt. Maybe, that's whats doing it?
Hey that looks like my exhaust.
About the pinging, I had the same problem and I had no idea on what it could have been. I didn't bother me though. tracracingparts is where I ordered the exhasut from and they then had Comptech directly ship me the whole I/H/E system.
BTW why did it take you so long to put the exhaust on, if it was me it would have been on the day I got it.
And diablo is a shitty store check out why https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=299873

I did that too..it took me 4 hours to install my exhaust because i had to sit there and saw the bolt by hand!

Do you also get the pinging? I'm wondering if that would help because from the cat to the exhaust I also only have 2 bolts holding it on right now.
Mine also make the loud pinging noise, even while the car is still on. It is annoying as heck, but I am relieved to hear that is it not just me who has this problem.
I used to have those louding Popping noises when the car was new, I think after time the noise eventually goes away, mine did anyway.
I have heard brand new bmw's making these noises and I just think its just because its new.
