dropping back down to idle speed.
When I lift off of the gas to stop, the rpm's don't fall back to idle speed immediately and smoothly. There is a slight pause of a few seconds slightly above idle speed and then it comes down to smooth idle. Its a 2000 itr; no mods. Another itr I drove tended to do the same. Anyone else observe this, is it normal, or does it indicate anything such as engine wear, etc? thanks
Seems the ECU may keep the idle a little higher than "normal" while the car is still rolling.
Does it drop "to/like normal" when you come to a complete stand still?

My answers (maybe right or wrong) is that higher idle is due to:
1. Some sort of emission control
2. If your foot is on the brake, something has to power the brakes. Basically the engine. Sort of like when running the air conditioner. doesn't return to normal idle.
3. Car is cold. When my car is cold, I can almost coast uphill without giving it gas. The car will not stall. the computer is keeping the idle high no matter what. (obviously within reason)
