how to stop clock dimmer?
i recently converted my clock to red but when i turn on my lights at night it dims the clock too much. Any of you guys know how to bypass the dimmer somehow? the red is nice and bright at night.... when my lights are off. Help please.
there is probably three wires going into the back of the clock, neg/pos and one from the lights, so i'm guessing just cut the wire that hooks up to your lights, if doesnt work just connect it up again!
I would think there is a red/constant hot wire, a black ground wire... and then an "illumination" wire..... you can just disconnect the illumination wire and it should stay bright all the time..
I haven't actually done this but it "should" work...

thanks for the help guys i'll try that.
i changed it to red by just taking it apart and attaching red film to the screen. The downside is you can barely see it during the day.

If you have a multi-meter, try testing each wire with the lights on and off. Shouldn't be too hard to locate the dimmer. BTW - I'm assuming that one wire is for daytime illumination, one is for nighttime (lights on), one is a continuous to keep the clock running when the car is off and the display is unlit, and one is the ground.
i just checked... there are 4 wires to the clock... red, black, yellow w/ green stripe, and white. Which one do i cut? yellow or white?
lemme know which one worked...i'm curious as well
I could have sworn (this is from memory so I "could" be wrong..but this is what I think it is from my Alpine head unit install) that the red wire w/ the black stripe was for illumination on the stereo..

so then wouldn't there be a relay somewhere setup to send power to one or the other, or do you think there is a built in relay in the clock that gives priority to the red/black wire instead of the daytime power wire? i'd be interested in doing something like this... so it all matches my head unit and such... but either way... its interesting.. i wanna kno!
