xAct - 8.8 pounds. I've got the 12.5 and wish I would have gotten the 8.8 after seeing the effects of the lightened flywheel.

Went with Fidanza. I'm delighted with both the build quality and the performance.

7.5lb fly here. I didnt really pay attention before, but I think it is about the same if not a tad faster at starting up.

I doubt that it will have much effect. The biggest resistance to turning is the compression. Ever cranked a motor with the plugs out?

The opposite. The force required to compress the intake charge in the cylinder is the biggest load the starter has to bear. That's why I posed the question: "Ever cranked an engine with the spark plugs removed?". With the plugs out, the engine spins very rapidly with the starter.

i would figure on a boosted car you would spool faster since youy would rev quicker, so why do people advise against light fly's for boost?

exactly what b19coupe said. ever try to turn you motor when you do a valve adjustment with the spark plugs in, and with the spark plugs out, you feel a difference in the amount of force you gotta use to turn the motor over. so without the plugs, the motor spins quicker and easier.

i've heard that a med. lightened flywheel is best for turbo's, like a 10-12 lbs unit. it wont drop revs too quick and still keep you in boost range.

I did not notice any difference in starting. I will say that I went with a 12lbs flywheel and it is not light enough. If I had to do it over I would probably get something in the 9lbs range.

I have the comptech chromoly 8.75lb wheel. Starting time of the car has not changed one bit. However throttle response is greatly improved. It just a blip of the throttle to rev match...very nice!

The advantages are that your car will rev quicker. There's a graph around here, the only one I've seen, it shows a clear HP gain w/ a lighter fly. There are no disadvantages IMO. Make the engine move less mass and it has more power and revs faster.
