How Does An All Wheel Drive Civic Sound???
uhhh..... i dont believe its worth it at all, you could prolly just buy a wrx or a lancer evo with the money you would spend doing that to your car....im not sure if its possible but do what you do.. .02
depends on what route you're planning to take, 4th gen wagon? how about just build up a CR-V? Either way I've heard those powertrains can't handle that much power. I had myself convinced once that it would be possible to bolt an entire CR-V drivetrain into a Civic, but I'm sure that would just be a major pain.
maybe you can get your hands on one of the JDM AWD Civics and swap parts, but again, I'm not sure how much power that stuff can handle. anything's possible with time and money, but your probably better off saving for a WRX or Evo.
You'll end up spending so much money on it, you be afraid to drive it, which would be a shame.

There was some CRX? on here that had a swap w/ a CRV tranny and a custom mount up. Not worth it. Doubt you would really do it anyways.
Definitely not worth it.
Better to figure out how to mount a small block 350 and convert to rear wheel drive.
That would be cool.
Tub out the hatch for some big fat *** slicks.
Yeah...
Either that or lift a CRX and put it on Super Swampers like the Baja Bugs...

The 4thgen wagon awd has the same wheel base as a bunch of other hondas civic's. By removing the gas tank it would be very easy to hook it up. I always thought it would be neat to put an awd system in a 4thgen 4door and make a badass d-series turbo awd sleeper

You would have to route the exhaust in a different place but thats not a problem.
I think it would be a very cool project
And if you lived in the junkyard it wouldnt cost very much if you had some friend that would do some welding for you.liam
both the wagon and crv drive trains are weak when it comes to giving power to the rear wheels. You could do it, but you arent really goign to benefit much since you are adding in a couple hundered pounds of weight... which means you need more power to run the same times - weak rear diff = you break **** before you see any real benfefit anyways

Anyhow- IMO, its costs would weigh more than its gains. Better off just starting with an AWD IMO. Quite a project.

There are/were 4wd civics made in japan in either 96-98 or 99-00 or both. I saw a japanese honda site once that has specs on them. They were all four door and automatics if I remember correctly. Rick
like it's been said before, it's not really a problem if you can do, hell anything can be done if you have enuf money to spend, but the real question is what the use will be? If you are just planning to have a daily driver built with a realatively small motor and great handling, then you can prolly pull it off. However if you plan to build it as a fully built motor and wanna do a rally-esque, type of car, it may be a waste of money because those tranny/diff combos don't handle high power very well. YOU WILL break it before you see any real advantage. Might be better off investing in a lancer or wrx in that case. Or if you wanna do something really different, try building an allwheel drive turbo rav4. It shares the same basic drivetrain of the AWD celica turbo, just need to swap it in and you can bolt in that engine too. I have considered this on my wife's 5spd rav, Toysport in Elsegundo CA has done it and you can see it on their site...www.toysport.com
