what are the signs for a bad intake manifold gasket?
When I accelerate, I get a small buzzing noise. Not like an AEM or any type of intake sound. I have my stock airbox and a pipe in place of my resonator (DIY ice box) and RU-2820 K&N air filter. Is the noise i'm hearing a bad gasket? TIA.
Intake manifold gasket would leak worse at idle, cause that's when the vacuum is strongest. Vacuum leak would probably give you an unstable idle.
Try putting the resonator back onto your intake pipe. The reason the resonator is there is for the noise...

it has been off for welll since i bought the car new...I just started to here that sound maybe a month ago. I have a wierd idle, kinda up and down, but just slightly, not like an out of wack TPs ( i had that problem before too). it is enough to annoy me, but not enough to trouble shoot. how bad would the idle be? I saw it in another post before and he said it was his IM gasket. I just didn't know how bad the idle was.
i have a cracked gasket and a big nasty vacuum leak... my idle sounds like race cams....except i dont have race cams.
EDIT: you asked how bad the idle is. mine goes from 700 - 1500 real aggressively. you can DEFINITELY tell.
if you're hearing that whistling sound, pop your hood and listen real closely to see where the sound is coming from. look around for a leak - it should be most prominent at idle if its a gasket issue.

ok thanks, that might not be it. mine sounds normal at idle and hardly any idle jumping. i go from 700-1100 at the most, and very slowly. the sound i'm hearing might just be the air resonating trought the tube. i dunno...i guess i'll continue to ignore it. thanks for the help.
check for other vacuum leaks... like i said, best way is to open your hood and listen really carefully. the weird idle might be from something else...
good luck.
good luck.
