Timing Belt Change on 97 LS
For my first post I have one of the most common questions I'm sure you have gotten but I couldn't find the awnser. I just picked up a 97 Teg LS with 94k. I don't know the history - am trying to find it- but in the event I can't I am going to do a timing belt and water pump. My question is how long should it take you to do a timing belt by itself? Also is thier a belt that you suggeset (stick to OEM, Dayco?)? I'm mechaincally inclined but never worked on a 4 cyl before - old V8 guy
Thanks for the help!

Personally I would buy oem parts from ahmotor.net or an online honda/acura company. You know it will fit and you won't need to decide to get the bronze, silver or gold line.
Also, get the helms manual- it is 64 bucks but well worth the 1400 pages (it's like 3 sears catalogs) to help make things easier. You should be able to knock it out in 4-6 hours, depends on how big of a hurry you are in. I did a 91 300zx TT with pump, tensioner, and cam/crank seals in a day, but this (honda) is a much easier job.
Use the helms to adjust your valves too- I'll bet they have never been done. Plus they are cake to do.
Oh yeah... http://www.helmsinc.com <--- book the dealers have

Honda's are probably the easiest thing to work on.
I use OEM Honda timing belt and Dayco accessory belts, and replace them more often.

timing belts last forever, don't change it! haha, j/k i have mine laying around.. haven't had a chance to change it yet.. I'm at 98k miles now, suppose to change it 8k miles ago.. hahha, **** me silly if that **** breaks.. check my sig, hurry!
Main obstacle is the crankshaft bolt, and I'd probably be speaking for the majority that it is the longest part of the belt change process if you have problems with it. If you can get that broken loose the rest is cake. I'd say roughly 30-60mins if all goes smoothly.
ive used chain wrenches at home to takle that, at the shop i use a impact gun, honda has a special wrench for it also, it has the hex shape with a hole so you can put a socket through it, moroso makes that special tool as well. good luck
