Default ??? Value of this 97 Tegra LS ???

What is the value of a 97 Integra LS; 100% stock; one owner; with 124,000 that had the timing belt go at 30 mph?

This a co-worker that I've worked with for 4 years. Great guy!

He had it towed to the dealer and had the $85 “OBD diagnosis” performed. They gave him a large $$$ quote to replace the cylinder head, timing belt & tensioner, water pump, and to have the brakes done while it is in.

He went and got a new car (Hyundai Sonata), and is asking me to come up with a figure to pick up the Tegra. This car was babied from new!

(I plan on doing the repairs myself)

What would you offer?

3000 tops no more then that! thats a crap load of miles and who cares if its babied or not the timing belt broke while driving might as well just get a B18c 1 or 5 in there now. now that i think about it buy it for like 2500 its a shell wit a motor that could be screwed up bad and has bad brakes. hehe

damn, see what u get for not replacing the timing belt at around 90K miles.

well u gotta make sure that only the head is in bad condition. the pistons could also be bad due to it hitting the valves when the belt snapped. i would offer him the most 2G's. pull out that b18b and slap a b18c1 in there. u can sell that LS block easily. lots of people will want it to do LS/VTEC's

He was talking about using the car as a tax write-off and I explained to him that he would not save on the value of the car, but just his tax rate value of the car.

Even if he valued the car at $4000 the tax savings would only be $1000 if he was at a 25% tax rate ($56,801 - $114,650 a year).

I think I have him around $1500. I will let you know as need to get this out of the dealers yard!

The car is a 96, and they alrady installed the timing belt at the dealer. Also, he has 4 winter tires for the car.

I offered him $1000 and he said sure
