Default anyone ever build up a NA LS motor??

I have a 96 SE

There are too many choices when it come to engines, and power.

I think this would be a pretty cheap route. To build up a NA LS. ( not LS/VTEC )

I am shooting for 200whp with this setup.
It would be totally sleeper cuz you pop your hood it would look like a bolt on modded LS engine.

So far all I have is a CAI for power adders.

Possible setup
11.5 to 1 Compression ratio forged pistions ( maybe higher compression? )
upgraded connecting rods
new piston rings
SS 4 to 1 header
Hondata intake manifold gasket
Crower cams
upgraded valve springs/ retainers
taper bored throttle body
ECU ( hondata maybe?)
full catback exhaust

Possibly lightly porting the intake and exhaust ports.
Maybe skunk2 intake manifold
test pipe maybe?

Anything else I should consider?

200whp in a LS in probably not going to happen. I can see 170 with alot of mods though. If you do go this way, you are going to need the 404 cams, completely balance the rotating assembly. Raise the reline to at least 8k cos thats the 404s make power up there. You need a hondata or a safc to help smoothen out the lumpy 404's(still gonna be lopey though) Also you definately need a port and polish to get max hp out of the LS and you are going to be spending alot of money, this route isnt cheap. Good luck, we need more all motor ls's out there

There's a member on here thats runnin the 403's with bolt ons and tuned hittin 151 whp. Thats pretty inpressive but I'd rather go FI for the money you'll spend on the NA add ons. Doesn't have to be a big turbo can be a junkyard setup and still be fast .

Simply put, non-VTEC motors are not good candidates for streetable, allmotor power. At those kinds of power levels, the required cam will make the motor unstreetable. I know alot of people hate VTEC. But a VTEC head (and appropriate build) is the cheapest and most reliable way to make the kind of power you want.

I know this info my friend have his LS this is what he have on the car
CAr is 1997 LS
ITR Tranny
JG head package
Crower stage 2
valve/spring retainer is change dunno what comp.
AEM CAI/ Greddy SP/JG header/underdrive pully
TB 64mm i i think
14" hub on drag radial ( the hub that came with the LS car on 97)
everything else is stock yes stock ECU block has not been touch.

Anyway its 175whp i forgot the torque. his car is like a low 14s, never did on track but i know it low 14s cuz i'm mid 14 and he kill me and he lost to MR2 turbo upgraded boost like to 12-15 i dunno he hit 14 flat consecutive. He even kill GSR turbo hatch boosting 7psi. I haven't seen him lose at take off at all only once to WRX on take off, more then that all FFW is kill on the launch if they beat him then its like later on 4th gear. he is neck to neck with Z28 stock.

Some people know him donw in Royal its the yellow integra wingless one, yes its a LS

i have experience with this. I run the ECHC in H1 class; my car is #11, a 95 Civic DX hatch with B18A LS power. it is a nonvtec (no ls-vtec).

my engine was built by a proffessional. everything was done to it within the prep limit; lots of time and money was spent on the head prep (where all the power is). lots of custom porting and matching. valve work. prelude throttle body. work done on the intake manifold. dual valve springs; retainers, custom cams.

it is super streetable. idles at 800 rpm with a slight lope. mega tons of off the line torque. during the standing starts, i leave at 2100 rpm and it leaps out of the hole. gotta be careful about the wheelspin! with the custom cams it pulls all the way strong to 8800 rpm. I try to shift between 7500 and 8000 due to the stroke of the motor and reliablity issues, but last year at the last race I wrung it out to the max. it was running great until one of the valve springs failed (Crower dual valve spring). clank, it dropped a valve and game over. its at the machine shop now....

its not as fast as the type R modded engines, but its pretty fast. at extremely high speeds, the Type R guys start to pull away signifigantly (such as Yacks car).

to have all this done correctly is not cheap. not by any means. I have $5k in my LS motor. I planned on only spending about $3200 originally, but it crept up on me; as it usually does!

The head should be back to me in a few weeks, and I will reassemble it. We will see how it performs in the upcoming year.

I like the LS motor, and seeing as how I have so much LS related parts, I will continue to run the LS powerplant. I believe that I am probably the only LS powered non vtec entry in H1 right now -- go LS!

good luck with your build up.
