My Eps been fine so far.No audible detonation so far......And to the guy who asked what detonation is....well,to sum it up,its BAD.Sounds like a can of marbles ratttling around under your hood. The a/f mixture combusts before the pistons hit TDC,and are forced back down while still trying to travel upwards.Bad gas, crazy ignition advance, and poor tuning in general are the culprits.#1 killer of motors with forced induction.

I've had the Hondata flash on my Type-S for a good 6k miles, and no problems whatsoever.

the k20a3 runs on normal 87....maybe they should switch to 93 or whatever your local premium octane is to prevent the detonation once you get the flash

I'm a Hondata tester, my ep has also been fine so far. No detonation to be heard either. The tune feels great, better throttle response, nice low end, crazy new redline, pretty much a night and day difference.

froim what i saw people were using 91-93 depending on where they wre in the country. just curious b/c i wanna get teh flash for our type-s, but i don't want any detonating issues since it's a 2x,xxx.xx investment, and i have a lot of money tied up in my hatch so i can't afford to screw up teh k20

Are we correct in our belief that the Hondata is designed for premium fuel in mind?

im a newbie over there, i was reading the Hondata problem thread last night and i dont really think you have to worry. the people at Hondata are aware of these problems and seem more then willing to make sure everyone is satisfied with their $600 flash investment.

damn, i want a flash too, but first i need to work at my 'rents a little more so i can get an ep3

Of course, Hondata is very professional.. Doug (from Hondata) stated that he will go to Canada if necessary to figure out what;s up with the 3 guys over there. He also said he will cover the fees for their dyno testing.

one thing which I'm wondering about is the issue with the winter ethanol content.

Doug at Hondata said that this could be one of the reasons why there was detonation occuring...but does that mean that those of us who live in areas where gasoline has ethanol in the winter, cannot use it?

Someone I know dyno'd his base RSX w/I/E/hondata and got detonation on the dyno. Don't know what kind of gas he was using though.

Crappy gas will more then likely be the killer in the case. I use nothing but the top fuel ( 91-93) in my car no matter what the price, and yes I have seen some crazy prices between here and cali. I too am getting the hondata flash in march when I go to Cali. Well good luck guys with your cars, and if you are still worried about the problem, just give doug a call at hondata and maybe he can help you out more.

hondata backed out the timing a little and supposedly that fixed the detonation issues with the ep...they also said that the will re-flash all the problem ecu's AND give a free intake manifold gasket for everyone's trouble...seems like a stand-up company...but i'm still not getting the flash for a while...i want all the bugs worked out first...and i want to see some hardcore dyno proof...$600 is alot of money for such a small gain...7700rpm is nice...but i'm not sure if the A3 can handle that rpm for too long...so i'm holding off...probably going turbo or JRSC anyway...
