'91 civic accepts '95 engine, '95 civic accepts B18/B16
Please help me (and others) understand this. Here is how I understand things.
A 1991 Civic will accept a 1995 Civic engine, bolt in, no kit.
A 1995 Civic will accept Acura engines and B16 etc..., no kit.
That being the case, how come a 1991 Civic has to have a bolt in kit to accept a B16/B18 engine?
(the years can be expanded and engine choices, I was just using one example I know to be true)

Let me expan on this a little bit if there is any confusion.
If the motor mounts in a '91 Civic will accept a '95 engine.
And the motor mounts in a '95 Civic will accept B16/B18 engines.
Then why won't the mounts in a '91 Civic accept the B series engines?
Is it all about the transmissions?

To bolt a 95 D15B7 or D16Z6 into a 4th generation you have to use some of the stock 88-91 mounts. Also to install the B series into a 5th generation you have to use the Del Sol rear mount. So there are some differences there.
Hmmm, well lets say we try to swap a B series into a 4th gen and use some 88-91 mounts plus the del slow rear mount... what then?
The d-series mount won't fit on the b-series. And the rear mounts are different from 4th to 5th generation. So still no dice.

The 88-91 cars are missing 2 of 5 mounts that are in 92-95 cars. The only reason the 92-95 D series will bolt in is beacuse you are keeping 3 of the 4 mounts stock from the 88-91. These three are attached to the transmission, which you can use witht he 92-95 D series engines. The Driver side mount on the 92-95 can be replaced with the one from the 88-91 engine.
Here's a run down.
The REAR mount where it bolt to the chassis on a 88-91 is COMPLETELY different than any other car. Period.
The FRONT mount on an 88-91 DOES NOT EXIST in the same way as a 92-95.
It's almost like trying to fit a square in a 5 sided hole. it just doesn't work.

it really is confusing. if you draw it out on paper, you can totally understand it, though. thats what it took for me to understand
Who wants to draw it for me?
Will a B series engine mount on like a '95 Si tranny?

When u say 95 Si tranny I'm assuming u mean a d-series tranny, which will definitely NOT bolt on to a b-series block, no questions asked. If thats what your asking.

D series trannies wont fit B series engines...just think of it like this....any D series will fit into any civic..no problem..because they all come with d series engines...only a few civics come with b series engines...so it wont fit easily into as many..pre 92 civics never had b series engines in the US...so we need special mounts

USDM modelsedit- unless you mean the Des Slo VTEC B16A3, but didnt that only come out in like 96-97?
damn people in Japan were drivin CRXes with B16As in em. that would've been cool as hell back in like 89.

the deal is, a 91 will accept a 95 engine ONLY if you use your 91 transmission. that's because 3 of our 4 engine mounts are on the tranny. you would need a mount kit if you wanted to swap a 95 engine and tranny into a 91 civic.

Also, if you put a 1995 Civic engine into a 1991 Civic, you need to change the driver's side mount to a 1991 driver's side mount.

hey i just baught a 91 DX because the engine needs to be replaced. i have a 95 D15B7 left over from when i swapped a B18C1 into my 95 CX. i know what i have to do to swap the 95 D15 into the 91 as far as the mounts and tranny and clutch go, but what about the wireing, im having a hard time finding any info on this as it isnt very common to do this. any help is appreaciated, thanx guys.

but if i did want to run the OBDI ECU i could just follow the insturctions in the link in your sig right, then i dont have to worry about swapping and modifying the distributor or anything else.
it woudl be alot easier to just go non obd with your dx crx i might be wrong but if the engine you have is dpfi than it will go in fairly easy without messing with the wireing. if for some strange reason you wana go obd1 then you have to run a full obd1 harness (the whole car) that wont be fun letme tell you it sucks enough changeing a dx to an si (wireing) that takes a full car wireing swap also and that evin still is for that car and everything bolts up (connectiors exc..) i can imagion it would be a nightmare to comvert to obd1 i would deff stay non obd and save yourself the hassle. ....................... but what the hell do i know

the 92+ d series fit because you change the drivers side mount to the 88-91 one and you dont use the tranny from the 92+ cars cause 1) theyre hydro 2) they mount up differently
you could fit a 88-91 engine in a 92 car with the 92 tranny and 92 drivers side mount.......
most honda engines use only 1 engine mount and the rest are on the transmission
