Stuck in 2nd gear tranny issue???????
Hey all,
I just bought a 91 Si hatchback with a few bolt ons, including intake, header, exhaust, and the kid just did an act clutch. now the problem is that it wont go into any gear other than second. if i crawl under the car when it's off i can move the shift linkage back and forth and it feels like it clicks into the various gears, but when you start the car and try to shift it doesnt go into other gears. It feels like the shifter is stuck in neutral but it is really in 2nd. what should i check first, linkage looks fine, and moves fine. Is it the tranny itself? thanks

Hmmm... I had a kinda similar problem, except my tranny wouldnt go into ANY gears unless the car was off. Turns out it was my clutch, one of the springs from the clutch disc fell out and was lodged between the disc and the pressure plate. Will it go into all the other gears if the engine is off? If it does, put it in first then start the car, if the car starts moving even when you have the clutch pedal pressed down, then its gotta be something to do with your clutch. Either that, or maybe you need to adjust your clutch cable, it might not be engaging right (or disengaging, whatever its called when you press down on the clutch pedal
).

turns out there were 3 popsicle sticks, and a kit-kat wrapper in there. no, just kidding. i ended up just throwing another tranny in there. up and running in less than 3 hours!!!

All you had to do is adjust the clutch cable. That works, if not re-adjust the clutch disc with the alignment tool. Happened to my boys crx I fixed it. and now its running. with his excedy clutch.
