Hey,
Just sorta stuck on this dilema. Now is it worth it to just save up for say getting the Apexi N1 catback or a universal N1 with a custom piping from a muffler shop? I see lookalikes offered all the time on the internet and groupbuys, it's really tempting to just get one of those and going to a muffler shop to get the piping done.
Does a custom piping setup get the same hp as the Apexi cause I know some R&D went into making the N1 get the most efficent gains. And will a universal setup have more of a "farty" sound as opposed to the Apexi N1 catback? Bleh I know it's a lot a questions, I just wanna make sure I'm doing the "right" thing and get my money's worth!
TIA
Peace

I have the same delima, I think it's all about ur car setup, because its alot cheaper if u go to the shop wit huniversal stuff, but it might not give u the sound and Hp u wont. I'm thinking about getting the right setup then choose a universal set up for my car the nsee what happens.

i have a universal muffler (RPI 3") with custom piping whole thing cost about $350 when all said and done (labor for the piping included) and the muffler has a real nice deep sound. not farty at all... i konw they make a 2.5" muffler too. http://www.rollhard.com/rpmufflers.htm is a link for some pics and more info.

magnaflow. you can buy mandrel bent stainless sections, a high flow cat, and a free flowing perforated muffler. get a local muffler shop to cut, fit and weld, and you'll have a quiet reliable, and probably better exhaust than you can buy from another company. oh, did i mention it's cheaper?

Let's see, I need the piping and I'd also need a custom resonator, anyone know of a person or place that sells one? Really leaning towards a custom setup now.

http://www.jegs.com or http://www.summitracing.com for mandrel bent piping. i had a custom 3" exhaust and downpipe fabricated and i used the apexi n1 muffler, no cat no resonator and it turned out really nice.

i have some videos of the car running if you want to hear how it turned out. keep in mind its a 3" exhaust with a turbo and a few other things on it so yours probably wont sound like mine does.

How much of a difference does the muffler make to power. If you had a custom system with 2.25inch piping, and a custom muffler with say a 3" exit, how would the power compare to say a Greddy with 2.25inch piping, and a custom muffler with say a 3" exit.
Does anyone know what I mean?
Basically, if the piping is the same, apart from the muffler, how much of a difference does the muffler make, and how do you choose the correct muffler for power gains?

www.jegs.com or www.summitracing.com for mandrel bent piping.
SQ of your custom setup is highly dependent on what muffler you choose, and whether or not you use a resonator. And assuming you use a comparable pipe diameter, performance gains will be as good as anything you can buy.
