Default obd2 1.6 vtec (d16y8 i think) into a 90 CRX DX

Here's my situation. I have 2 cars, a 2000 civic si (my baby that i'm about to rebuild the motor on) and a 1990 CRX DX that i'm using as my daily driver while I work on the Si. When I bought the CRX, it had a blown head gasket. So i went it and replaced it and the water pump, thermostat, timing belt, etc. I got it all back together and it solved almost every problem and it runs beautifully now, but it burns oil. I think most of it is from #3 (judging from the spark plug). Now, I have 2 options really.

1) Tear apart the motor again and figure out what's leaking oil
2.) A friend of mine is willing to sell me his d16y8 (1998 EX VTEC motor) for around $200

Both of them have their setbacks. I'm not 100% on what's leaking in the current d15, wether it's a bad piston ring, valve seal or both. All the spark plugs had some light carbon buildup, and only #3 had oil on it.

My other question is about the obd2 motor. Since this CRX is my daily driver, I want to spend as little as possible on it and make it as reliable as possible. So, would it be possible to hookup the DX intake manifold and distributor the the obd2 motor and it work? I know vtec won't engage or anything, but i'm not worried about that. If I can get it to work like this, I can come back to a conversion to mpfi later. I hope this made sense and I appreciate any feedback ya'll can provide.

i sorta got lost in the end of ur msg but i have a 00' y8 motor in my 90' CRX Si and it was a complete bolt in afair. i am not sure about using the DX intake manifold and dist, pretty sure ur going to need to do a full MPFI swap when u put that y8 in. once u do the MPFI swap it will be easy. i used all my stock CRX Si parts(dist,IM,EX,Harness, etc). i would definately suggest gettin the y8,especially for only $200. anyways i hope this made sense cus i'm soo tired right now and have idea wut i jus wrote good luck on the swap!!

you might want to try to read this thread. it has similar information, only it has a d16y7 instead. if you aren't interested in the vtec activation, than i'm almost sure that it would be a similar swap to the d16y7.

thanks for the link, l0p3z.

here's a quote I got from that thread:

i have a 97 d16y7 in my 90 std which is DPFI just like your DX. All I did was use the stock Std./DX intake manifold, exhaust manifold, alternator, distributor, tranny, mounts and harness (basicallly i only used the d16y7 head and block) and everything works great. you'll have to mess with the coolant temp sensor wiring though. that's it.
So with the y8, I can run my DX I/E manifold, distributor, harness, etc and use just the bare block and head from the y8 and it'll work fine? Sounds almost too simple, heh. Any other problems I might run into besides the coolant temp sensor?
