Default homie wrecked prelude today - 56k beware

my boy wrecked his prelude today. taking an on ramp, he oversteered and hit the wall. he only has liability coverage too. what do you guys think, it's totaled? it looks pretty bad. but he's ok though.

kinda speeding, 45 in a 25, not wet either. but i guess lack of experience, he didn't know what to do when it started oversteeriing.

That sucks...
Is that pic of the driver's door to show that your frame got warped and you can't close the door anymore? If not, just looking at the front of the car, it doesn't look like it is too bad. It's still gonna cost a couple of K's, but at least you don't have to lose the dying breed they call Prelude...

Hmmm...the only way it'd be totalled is if he has frame damage and its hard to see if it does. If that is totalled I'd buy it back, you could easily still drive that thing after replacing the front bumper, hood, and front left and right side panels.

i think it's totalled. the frame needs to be pulled, and needs new radiator support, etc. and yeah, the pic with the door, door doesn't shut. but i dunno, should he fix it, what do you guys think. todays not a good day though. at least no one was hurt.

It really dont matter, if the car is totalled or not. The kid only had liability insurance. You ether pay for it to get fixed, or you just look at it sitting in your yard. Pay 2000 or more to fix, or lose $5300..

But, sorry for the loss. Lucky no one was hurt

Well if you say he oversteered then I'd say he made a major mistake of
A.) Driving- Doesn't understand how weight transfer affect handling of car.
B.) Improperly tuned suspension- More understeer tuning rather than oversteer tuning
C.) Just being stupid. * it does happen* so don't get pissed.

he doesn't understand the weight transfer when he lets off the gas, the weight transfers to the front wheels, thus the rear end loses grip, i think thats how it goes. or at least i don't think he does. weight transferred off the rear when he let off the gas, is what i think happened. all he has is h and r lowering springs on there, with the stock swaybars as far as suspension goes.

From the picture it look like the tunnel is a curve, if he was coming out of there really fast and let off the gas and breaked while turn, that for sure is not a good thing.(he'd lose the rear) Also Lowering spring along with stock shocks makes for a bump ride if he went over a bump then he has more weight transfer problems.

By "couple of Ks", I was realy thinking at least 3K. But if the frame got it then, we are talking 5K+ (is that the air bag I see in the pic?). But you are right. From the Insurance Company's perspective, it is "totalled". But I thought the insurance doesn't cover it. So technically, it is not "totalled"...?

Either way, I'd try to look at it on the bright side. Nobody was hurt and a lesson was learned. I'd take this as a chance to turn the car into a project car: replace those parts with upgrades (like carbon fiber hoods, some real cold radiators, etc)...

yep ... the manouver is more commonly known as "lift off oversteer" or even "kensei drift" ... basically you come through a turn where your rear end is loaded trying to hold the car to the road ... you should be reasonably high in the revs ... lift of the throttle, transfer the weight to the front which means there is less traction available at the rear and hang on ... you then apply suitable opposite lock and feather the throttle to stop the car spinning completely ... awesome fun

im not sure if i am going to fix this car, if it is out of my price range which i think it will be then i will save up to buy a 92-95 hatch and drop the h23a engine in there. The engine still run good so thats my plan for now but im not sure yet.
