Exhaust Question: Axle-back vs. Cat-back
Was wondering if it was really worth it to get a catback over an axle back exhaust system... i'm never going to be going all out on my setup but definitely i/h/e over time... i have nothing right now and am just starting to look around to see what i can find... couldn't really find anything relating to this on any searches i tried. thanks for any comments.
you really aren't going to gain anything from an axle back besides noise. the reason to get a cat-back is because of the larger diameter pipe that is included. with the larger pipe and free flowing muffler.....you'll then gain power and noise.
you can get an axle back as i did and then have an exhaust shop make you a custom midpipe. I purchased a 5zigen axleback for my teg and then had a local shop custom make the piping for the rest of the system. I also had them make a quick test pipe and with all of that combined, it was alot cheaper than buying a cat back from a shop
five speed is correct that with just the axle back and nothing else you are still a stock exhaust that doesnt flow any better until it hits the axle back. basically you are just getting noise

I have a Apexi N1 muffler and silencer I would like to sell. It is brand new. To get a nice system all you would have to do is take it to a muffler shop and have them pipe it from the cat to the muffler.
I just recently bought a DC Sports axleback. After getting it installed, I noticed no gains. I plan to get an ITR b-pipe to compliment my axleback, and we'll see what happens from there....

do you have an intake? i definitely noticed a gain with intake and just a canister muffler on the highway. ive since upgraded to a used greddy catback. i wish i had done that in the first place..
well i know now that it will definitely be a catback.. but should i got axleback with custom piping or just get a "real" catback? too many decisions!

It is only about $150 to have a muffler shop pipe it from the cat back. It ends up being cheaper than buying a whole system. That is what have done for every one of my exhausts and I have been real happy with them.
