Default Tranny fluid capacity chart.

Auto Transmission fluid capacity from manual for my 2000 Accord vtec 4 says Change 2.6 qts, with total capacity of 6.4 qts. I assume only 2.6 qts or less will drain and that I add 2.6 qts. Is that correct?
Thanks,

Ray

yep, and if you want to get a "cleaner" change you can either go to a shop where they will hook a machine up that will suck all the fluid out and exchange it with new fluid, or you can change the measly 2.6 quarts out, put in new 2.6 quarts, then drive around a bit, then do it all over a few times. Eventually you can get most of the dirty old fluid out, but the only way to get it ALL out is the machine to pull it out.

I 100% agree with wild horse. I didn't know they used a cleaner when they used the machine as well... I will never have it flushed if that is the case, I was under the impression from my dealer that it simply exchanged new Honda ATF for the old honda ATF. When it comes to Auto's I really think that a little bit of dirt is what really keeps the tranny working correctly as it gets up there in miles. Also I wouldn't use anything but Honda ATF. And you will be able to feel the difference in shifts when you change the fluid. It does make that big of a difference.

can you have the bilstein machine hooked up to suck out the old fluid replace with fluid only, no cleaners or additives?

Or you cannot take it to the shop and just pull off your cooler line the return line and put it in a bucket and add fluid while it’s running until the new fluid comes out of the hose pretty simple you don’t need to flush machine because it will ruin the transmission don’t listen to people that Just get online and take wild guesses because they really don’t know the answer there’s nothing worse because me personally I don’t go online to look for I think it’s this or it might be that I want the exact answer otherwise don’t post it

What he said. Ten points to Gryffindor!

And just to pile on with my curmudgeonly two-cents... clearly the OP didn't search their question within this forum. Honda-tech.com, et al., is maggoty with heated, hyperbolic, righteous opinion about all aspects of proper routine Honda transmission maintenance regimen; Honda DW-1 vs. Valvoline MaxLife; Complete Transmission Flush vs. Three-Quarts-of ATF-at-Every-Oil-Change (...or no ATF change at all); External ATF Filter vs. Leave Things As They Are... and on and on (and on), ad nauseum...
