narrowed tire choice to Kumho 712s and Bridgestone 730s need opinons
ok after reading all the posts in the searches, ive narrowed it down to the 712s and the 730s, i like the price of the 712s cuz i can get them installed for $300 from a friend and i like there threadlife of 340, but from what everyone has been saying its not that great for harder driving and maybe an occasional autox, the bridgestones threadlife isnt much lower at 300 but it seems like a little bit of a better all purpose tire, but will set me back $380 installed from coscto if i order by sunday, so im stuck between these 2, am i just being stupid for only 80 bucks??? wat do u guys think??? thx in advance
i considered the azenis, i can get them for $200 bucks and $40 installed but i want a tire that can last longer on a daily driver basis w/ an occasional autox, i rather not change team after 15000 miles since their thread life is only 200, i drive quite a bit so i want a tire to last a bit
I really liked my re730's they lasted a long time and several auto-x's, but I think I am gonna try azenis on my upcoming tire purchase
I've run the 712's, pirelli 700's & re010's as daily drivers and autox + track days (1 session on the track is a great way to learn limits on street tires).
NOW - I ran the Expo '02 + 1day Audi track day + a couple autox's + ~10,000 miles of hard street driving & the AZENIS still have at least 1/2 tread left. For the money, the azenis or 712's would be my choice...since you want some autocrossing, the azenis win hands down! Kumho's win if you'll spend alot of time in the rain
just my .02

I was looking at those two exact models when tire-shopping Summer 2001. I opted for the Kumho 712's because the Bridgestone 730's were on back-order. After driving on the 712's for 25k miles, I wish I had waited for the 730's. The sidewall on the Kumhos is really soft and was quite noticeable even coming from my old all-season Dunlop SP 4000's.
For a daily driver, the Kumhos are excellent...but for performance driving or an occasional Auto-X, I would definitely NOT look into the 712's.
On a side-note, I noticed the overall grip of the Kumhos deteriorate significantly during the hot Summer days...and that's in normal street driving. Quite embarassing when hearing the tires "peel out" while proceeding from a stand-still.

never had 730 so I can't comment, but I'm very impressed with the es100's.
I have 712's right now on my R. They have been good for daily driving. They're alot quieter than my nitto's. As far as grip they have been good even in the rain. This is only about 1.5 months I've had them. Good luck on your decision!
ive read alot about this happening w/ the kumhos, but still havent read or heard much about the conditions of the 730s after breaking them in, thx for all the responses guy
RE730's have a decent amount of grip and the thread wear is excellent
I have recently found them at a local COSTCO for $125 EACH! what a rip!
Z rated also, i would suggest them if you can get them for around $80-90 each, they are old tires.
My Yokohama A520's were alot better compared to the 730's

I don't see why so many people think azenis wear that quickly.
I would say Azenis or the avs es100 (although neither were your original options)

I completely agree the Azenis do not wear that quick, I would reccomend them for the price.
Myself,,, I am going to go with the V700 or A032 for my next street tire. Yes I'm nuts but want max grip for the street

i have had both tires on the same car with the same suspension.
stay away from the kumho. they might last a long time. but the sidewalls are way to squirmy. the tires do not instill much confidence.
the re730s are a good all around tire. i dont like them because they are soo expersive.
look into the dunlop sp9000. tirerack has a sale on them right now. i had the sp8000 before. and the 9000's last longer, quiter tire, a lil more grip, really good in rain.
I just got a used set of azenis, and they are really a great tire. they are louder than my bald *** 712's though.
great turn in, lotso grip!
research!

ok i just made things even harder, i called America's Tire and they said they will beat costco price on the 730s by 10-20 dollars so thats only a $60-80 difference, i think im leaning more on he kumho side right now though

why do you want to get the kumhos?
they will only last a little bit longer
they do not provide as much car feed back
they arent as fun
do you need more reasons?
well the reason i had counted out the dunlops was for the price, considering what u are getting, the thread life is below that of the 730 and 712, from what ive been reading on tirerack and hearing from friends there handling is rated a bit lower then the kumhos and bridgestones, they do have superior wet traction but in so.cal. its not to much of a concern for me, so that in mind i cant seem to draw myself to paying an extra $40 per tire as opposed to the deal im going to get on the bridgestones since the dunlops sell for about $120 a tire, so $480 total not installed, and i can get the bridgestones for $380 installed or the kumhos for $300 installed, i think that tire is just a bit to much for me considering the deals i can get right now
why not save money and get the Sumitomo HTR Z???
I had a set a while back and was rather pleased, and the price is cheap!
