Default Apexi VAFC

Does anybody with a VAFC hook it up by NOT splicing and soldering the wires into the ECU? I want a harness that I can use so I dont have this wirey mess on my ECU...is this not recommended? Thanks in advance.

make sure if you don't use the harness you use a s. iron when putting wires together. Makes it less of a mess and get a good signal becuase wires don't come un-done.

your an idiot. if you dont know the answer dont bother posting anything please.

you can use a custom made "jumper" made by kenji (which i have) or you can get an off the shelf one. i believe that leo does sell one of the off the shlef ones that are specifically made for the vafc...but dont quote me on that.

in either case all you will have to do is solder or crimp (not recommended) the vafc wires to the "jumper" and plug the jumper to your ecu. simple as pie

there are a few more options but the ones i just mentioned above i think are the best and least complicated.HTH

This is the Field's Harness. It took some reading to get the connections right.

So the Fields harness DOES work with the VAFC, but just not directly right? By that I mean that all the wires dont translate into the same wires for VAFC as Fields. Yeah?

most of the wires are the same...

once I had the wiring diagram for the Car ECU, it was easy to just trace it to the corresponding Field's Unit placement. Took like 30 minutes to get it soldered and working the first time.

I would just splice em and solder em...doing it right will take you no longer than an hour or so. Getting that experience is good for ya too It is how i learned to solder

You mentioned soldering but I see scotchlocks (sp?) I would recommend removing those.

I am not denying that its good to solder but I just dont want to solder into my own ecu. I would rather solder into somethign that i could remove later and have my ecu be as good as new. But yeah...i would not crimp them anyways, when i get a harness I WILL solder it.

Those are for tapping into the ground wires. At the time they seemed like a great option. Are you concerned with the signal quality of the connection?

edit\\\

You know what, I'll just solder the wires into the locks.

y not solder...u can unsolder later and it will still be "good as new"
just do a good job and use shrink wrap to make it look nice...definitely cheaper than buying a harness and as long as u do a good job it wont be shitty

Thier shouldnt be too much problem with going directly to the ecu.......if you take your time and do it neatly it wont be a wirey mess, and their wont be a need to waste money on a harness. If you are concerned about doing it yourself , it is really easy just follow the diagram. Besides if you want to go to obd-1 later(if you arent already) that will be another harness. i dont know though........just a penny for your thought!

want a harness? email kenji ( kenji211@tampabay.rr.com )

otherwise cut/tap and solder. if you car is under warranty it'll be obvious that a VAFC was installed however (if you have an electrical issue, etc and the dealership checks) unless you use a harness.
