changing thermostat
Hey hows it goin? My thermostat is a gonner and I need a new one. Im wondering if all I need to change it is the thermostat itself or are there other parts that I need? Thanks in advance.
are u a smart *** computer? how do u know if ur thermostat is gonner?, can u show sum proof.
and your question don't exactly stay on topic; state ur question clearly; i'm sure many topic on thermostat have discuss.
sorry i'm lil harsh on u, but changing thermostat is easy unbolt th 2 10mm nut and drain the coolant and take off old thermostat and put new one in.

Yeah I ignore the ignorant. ANyway so all I need is the gasket and a thermostat correct? And yes Im pretty sure its broken because after 5 min of idling the temp shoots way up.. it happend to a friends civic because the thermostat was stuck in open, thats what the dealer told us.

Gasket sold seperately from thermostat, buy a new gasket too.
when you replaced your thermostat, how much coolant spilled?
Did you use any gasket maker, or just the gasket that came with the thermostat. i plan on doing mine soon with an OEM thermostat on my 1994 accord LX.
thanks.

When I've bought T-stats, they came with the gasket. I didn't use sealant. The gasket is split around the inside, it fits over the edge of the T-stat. Orientation is important; that little rattle-pin has to be near the top. But for mine, they only fit in one way.
You may want to use this as an excuse to drain all your coolant, & make it fresh. Then get a gallon since most Hondas use a little less than 2 gallons total. (I'm not sure about '94 Accord...?)

I don't know if this helps anyone but I did read a service bulletin about 94-95 Accords having a problem with the temp sensor malfunctioning causing the temp to go straight to the top. Worth maybe looking into possibly. Sorry but I don't remember the what I did with the bulletin otherwise I would post it.
I am not sure abput this but if it is stuck opened, engine would stay cold/cool. if stuck closed, it will get hotter. maybe you can test your theromosat by taking it out and put it in hot water with a thermeter (sp) testing when and if it ever open or close. (I did mine on other day and mine was just fine.) you need to check around on what temperature it needs to be to open up. theromosat is not expensive but it could be something else that the thermosat is not the problem.
