Did the shop mess up my sensor after timing belt change???
I had the timing belt, water pump, and valve cover gasket changed on my GS-R turbo, and also had them adjust the valves while they were under there. As I'm driving my car off, I notice the check-engine light on. I took it back to the shop, and they took a bunch of stuff off to see if they had accidentally disconnected something...........but they said it's something unrelated and isn't their fault.
So I'm here to ask, is it reasonably possible to goof up a crank positioning sensor when doing a timing belt/water pump change? Thanks for your help!

Yes, Its very likely i would say. Its all in the general area, and you know if you get frustrated you start jerking stuff. It happened to mine, only it was when i wrecked my car. I would take it to them and demand they fix it. Its their responsibility.
I'm just curious.... You were getting a CEL 54 correct, for the CKFS not a 4 for the CKP... I assume that since you had the t-belt changed the CKFS is what you are talking about......
I agree with this totally, there isn't too many ways to really get stuff backwards and if they were just doing a t-belt change i don't know why you would unbolt the CKFS and pull off t-belt pulley on the crank... There is just no point... I also don't know why they would have unplugged it either... My guess is they probably know what they did, they BROKE the sensor, and they don't wanna pay $150 for a new one... Those little CKFS are expensive!!!! Anyways Good Luck, Peace

if you don't trust them, have someone else look at it... sorry about that.

The CKP is located inside the distributor so I don't really know how they could have damaged it or the wiring while doing a t-belt, waterpump, valvecover change, and a valve adjust.... There's just no need to touch it... Check the wiring to it to see that there are no breaks in it for some reason and also test the resistance over the CKP too... That should shed a bit more light on what is going on... Good Luck

I had heard somewhere else that this particular sensor was in the distributor, so I went ahead and bought a very low-mileage replacement for mine, thinking it would fix the problem. Doh! Still a check engine light. So now what to do? Diagnose bad wiring from the ECU to the sensor? Possibly a bad ECU? My gas mileage has gone down noticeably, and it seems to miss sometimes at idle, so I'm wondering if this is the culprit. If so, I'd like to get it fixed soon, but am wondering about how much the repairs would cost...... Hmmm. Thanks again for the help!

Back from the dead....Would this be causing me to get poor gas mileage? I'm trying to decide what to do with my car next, so if this is going to get me more bang for the buck, then I'm all for it. Thx.

find out what code you are thowing. Its that simple.
sounds like o2 sensor to me if your getting bad gas mileage. but could be many other things that are putting it into limp mode.
