Runs great.. lots of torque.. I usually do b20s swaps though since the blocks are so new. Make sure you buy new head and intake manifold gaskets though.. some ppl don't and they have bad oil/coolant leaks.

just did an ls/vtec setup on my friends 98 civic dx. we added all new parts, nothing was reused. we have high compression wiseco pistons, crower cams, etc. we have a lot done. it runs very strong. it needs to be tuned but it runs good so far. although we are using a b18c5 head and b18a block. if you do yours correctly you should be happy.

Most people go with the b16 head since it can generally be had for fewer dead presidents and performance is roughly equal. If you're not planning to swap out the tranny to a GSR or S4C tranny then you'll likely not be nearly as happy with your frankenmotor. As far as cost goes, I just picked up an entire b16a1 engine for $200 from a fellow cleaning out his garage, and I've seen several adds for $200ish b18a/bs. Naturally any such engines should be completely gone over(rebuilt) prior to resurection.

I have a b16 head on my b18b block and have 90,000 miles on my car and got the swap done around 75,000 and have not had any problems since i got it done(except a leak in the fuel rail, but that was the shops fault, i have my ls tranny so its kinda slow! but its runs so good and sounds great. vtec kicks at 4800.

Make sure you align the dowel pin for VTEC oil pres. exact, or it can rip the head gasket causing it to leak. It wouldnt be a bad idea to run VTEC oil pump and water pump either. For everything to run optimally, you might as well just bought a GSR motor in the first place. Actually, Ive been told by very reliable sources that you can make just as much if not more power/torque with a built LS motor. VTEC just gives you better driveability in traffic and better low end response, but then again we're talking 4 bangers here so there isn't much low end power to speak of anyway...

You MUST run a VTEC oil pump w/ a VTEC head.

who is this reliable source you speak of? built ls motor better than a built lsvtec.. maybe with a turbo, but your not going to get any near a built na/turbo lsvtec with a similar setup on the ls motor.

I say go lsvtec if you plan on changing the internals and the tranny but if not go with a gsr. My boy had a straight ls motor and tranny with a gsr head in a hatch and it was not kicking nearly as well as my other boy with a complete gsr(stock) in a hatch. the one with the lsvtec is also having a head gasket problem, so if you do it do it right.

The car that I bought already has a LS/Vtec swap. I like it and it runs well. However I prefer an LS Turbo. Do to the feel of the acceleration. Then again the LS/Vtec has a better driveability if you are in to Autocross.
