a. try a new thermostat
b. take out the valve that allows coolant to the heater core and run a straight pipe (I did this)
c. take off the intake and exhaust hoses for the heater core put a pressure washer at the end of one of the hoses and letter rip. Sometimes a bunch of gunk comes out that is restricting flow.
I did all of the above to get my car to heat at all. It still didn't heat and I was pissed. Finally i grabbed the cable under the dash that controls the 2nd butterfly vent and tugged really hard on it and the vent opened. HEAT!

also if it's REALLY cold out your heater won't get hot untill you start revving the engine. if that doesn't help jam a peice of cardboard in fron of half of your rad. it'll help keep the rad warm when driving
Sometimes my car takes a long time to heat up, sometimes it doesn't. It's odd. But my heat can burn my hands if I turn it up to 4, I never even go past 2 or it's already too hot.
