mated with my 00-01 cams, what would be considered the UP markings on the cam gears...the one with the markings????

but you should use the side markings and not the up markings

 

if you want TDC on #1 the side markings should match and the TDC mark on the crank pulley will be right on (assuming you know where the mark is and where to line it up at)

 

hmmm, i know where all the markings are, I've set the crank at #1 by lining it up with the mark on the block, but my cam gears if the lines are considered the UP then i f*cked up...b/c i had them pointing at eachother at the side for TDC. guess this is why my car is not starting up

 

your distributor could be 180 out of time, make sure it is on the right way. just a thought

 

On my Skunk2's, when cylinder 1 is at TDC, the degree markings are on top, they aren't facing sideways if that's what you are saying yours are doing.
