Torque Converter Article from Import Tuner mag...
Ok,
Many of you out there know that the most efficiency can be gained out of an automatic transmission by improving certain characteristics of the torque converter.
That being said I need some help from some of the import tuning magazine readers out there:
Some of you might remember that both I and my father-in-law have 5th Gen Preludes.
While up in Boston over the holidays I was reading his (I think) Import Tuner mag and there was a article about a company in CA that reworks import T/C's. Their operation looked VERY impressive.
I'm wondering if anyone here can remember the article and tell me the company? I'd like to contact them about their work and modifications for the 5th Gen SS Auto T/C.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You may be talking about Level 10. They're the company that I hear being discussed the most. Check here for more info: http://www.levelten.com/. If it's not them, maybe someone else can offer other possibilities...
You evil bastard... are you following my on ALL of the Prelude web sites! -grin-
Actually, I know that Protorque does all the work for Level 10. ( I would personally never take my tranny to Level 10 at this point.)
I'd like to know how Protorque compares to other vendors, and what specifically they will change (other then the stall speed)?
Any thoughts Shark Man?

Hahaha, I'm all over the place
I haven't talked to Protorque too much, and had heard that they do the converter work for Level 10. I filled out their form on their site for info, and got this reply:
That's all I know. I was hoping you knew more than me
OT, what exactly have you heard about Level 10 and their work? Any specific bad stories? I'd be interested in reading or hearing about them. Although at this point, I think I'm leaning toward a tranny swap, cause this damn tranny just isn't cutting it with boost.

The torque converter that I recommend for this application is our PTC - HO15SS. This torque converter is the perfect mix of performance and streetability and is recommended for a street/strip application. The stall speed on this torque converter is approx. 300-800 above stock. Our price on this torque converter is $395.00 +shipping. The reason we recommend this piece is because of it's good drivability, and durability.
Unfortunately, we do these on an exchange basis. The turnaround time for this torque converter is usually 1-2 days.
In performance applications we also recommend a cooler due to the fact that performance torque converters tend to create more heat. We carry a full line of coolers. Please feel free to call or e-mail me if you have any further questions. We have these things in stock and are prepared to ship on your advise. Once again thanks.

Great Shark Man:
I moderate the Sportshift Complaint Forum at http://www.honda-prelude.com.
The Level 10 stories are there and at PO.com.
Basically, it's 50-50 chance that they'll screw you.
So far I've heard a lot of good things about getting an after market T/C job and using a recent Honda SS rebuild. I'd only try this if you send you M6HA (SS Tranny) back to Honda for a rebuild. -This is the only way I can think of to get the most recent parts into the unit.
I thinking a stall speed at the top of the Honda recommended service limit from the service manual, and the updates they do to the internals of the unit to improve effcientcy...
These are the guys from the tuner mag, and they give you all the extra stuff (like a cooler) with the price ($700.00). They are supposed to be really good.

Ok,
I found the information on the company:
JMO of America
709 W. commonwealth Ave
Fullerton CA 92832-1612 USA
714-738-0621
Does anyone here speak Janpanese? ...and would you be willing to call them up and ask some routine questions??
Basically, I'd like to know what specifically they are going to change in the T/C to make it more efficient?
Also, I'd like to get an idea as to who they could possibilty recommend to rebuild the transmission?
The guy was really nice, even said that'd he'd give me a break on the price, but I can't understand him because he's got a thick accent.

I haven't been over to h-p.com much, but it looks like you have a good forum going there, I'll sign up.
The thing that really bugs me about Level 10 and having work done by them is that they claim that their builds are good to 400 hp but their warranty is only 90 days long. That sucks. I don't think I would have them do any work. I don't think I'd even want to ship my tranny out like that.
Bleh on the SS tranny, I think I'm going to do an H23 5 speed swap next year.
