question about the "SS" button on 4th gen
i have a 4th gen accord, as u can see in my sig, during the later part of that generation. question is, my friend has a 90 accord EX, and it has wats called an SS button, which is short for sport shift i believe....question is, how come my 92 EX doesn't have one? did they stop making them with the 92-93 accords? thanks for any info.
BTW, i did do a search, and it just came up with a lot of posts about push start ignition.

because the 92-93 was smarter. basically the ss button just stayed in gear longer for 90-91, but the more advanced 92-93 can determine it from pedal pressure and how you are driving and whatever, so it didn't need it. I think.
so you think your car is smarter than mine? meet me at 4th street bar, in the ally....we'll settle this the right way, and IQ BOWL...hehe
i do'nt know, hard on the throttle i didn't notice a diff with SS on or off. only noticed it when i was going easy on the throttle. pointless in my opinion.

Damn thanks guys, I didn't even know that I had SS on my car. I was wondering why it would shift only at 3K RPM. My brother's '89 Mazda 626 has a similar button on his shift handle, is that SS also?

you'll get more wear and tear because rpms will be higher, it'll put more stress on an already shitty auto tranny. and, if you put it to the floor, with SS off even, the car will shift at redline, you are just grandma driving or something if you've never gotten it to shift past 3k rpm. you do'nt really need the sport shift to get ti to shift high, just stomp on that gas pedal.
honda intro's a new tranny with "grade logic" and it determines the shift points depending upon how you drive the car, up or down hill, coasting, etc.... works rather well but it can on occasion cause the torque converter to unlock and rpms to jump when climbing long hills.
I have heard nothing but bad things about the 4th gen accord auto tranny. Mine well...basically sucks...I have heard that installing a transmission cooler helps but then I asked my mechanic and he said not much but does it shift smoother and stuff. When I first drive my car in the morning when I don't let it warm up the transmission shifts like its brand new I think its because its cool. So I figured that if I could keep the cooler at a certain temperature that my transmission won't shift hard...which would be extremely great. I'm going to be putting Mobil 1 transmission fluid in it this week when I get it changed.
