I have noticed a slight rattle coming from the exhaust. It only happens form around 1,000-3,000 rpm, and only when the car is cold. Once the lude warms up the sound goes away. The noise seems to be coming form the cat area.

I have been told this could be a couple of things...

1. I have a DC sports stainless steel header, and I have heard that they can crack at the base of the header and make a rattling sound. Is this true, and has this happend to anyone?

2. The honeycomb in my cat could have broken up and be loose inside. I saw a thread in the integra forum were this happend. Has this happend to anyone?

3. The heat sheild covering my cat could be loose and making the noise. But I checked that and everything seems to be tightened down alright.

I guess my questions are could any of this be true? And has this happend to anyone else? Also do any of you know a quick fix to this rather annoying problem?

my lude used to rattle at 2.5-3K while driving. i also have a DC sports ceramic header. it could of been that or the stock Cat. for some reason the rattling went away so it's cool. should of gotten a mugen header.

 

mine did the exact same thing....turned out to be a leak right near the flange.....15 dollar weld job fixed it right up

mine does the same thing at about 2700RPMs. Sounds like the cat to me .
I might replace it sometime in the future with a high flow cat. Anyone know a good brand?

yeah, my friend has the exact same problem with his 5th gen lude.... "it was rattling at 2700 rpms and i have the dc sports ceramic header...sound went away for about a week so far though". he thinks this is the problem...

 

I had the same problem when I had my S model engine in. I had the DC ceramic header, and I suspect that it was the little ring that went in to the flange at the cat that was rattling. It did not fit tight, and moved around a little...and it was at the same rpm range...

maybe you could unhook the header at the cat, throw in some sealant on that ring and hook it back up...it may fix the problem

 

I don't have a aftermarket header but I got the Tanabe Racing Medallion and like my car does the same thing. Its a 5th gen and it rattles near my cat when i like gas it at low RPM. It's on and off. I have no idea what it is...its driving me crazy. I've heard of cats blowing out, like the honeycome looking thing inside. My friend had an aftermarket cat on his R and it got busted.

 

Its the god damn cat ratteling....

 

i guess i wasn't the only one with this problem.
