i want to put a ats final drive in my ys1 cable trany, it has a non lsd open dif and i'm not to shure if my ring gear will fit. would i have to use a gsr dif. i don't plan on changing the dif if i don't have too (it has a phantom grip in it. some people dog it, but haven't even used one before.). i'v searched a hunddred time's and never found the info i really need. if any one can help me out it would be greatly apreciated.
I'm pretty positive it wont fit.
When installing a type r lsd into a YS1, you need to use an R ring gear because the YS1 ring gear wont fit. So naturally, i would assume the reverse is true.
Just from what i've read, i dont have any hands on experience with YS1s. Yet.

Also, which YS1, hopefully not a USDM LS one because it will be tough to get it to fit, only the USDM GSR YS1 will work or the JDM YS1 (which comes with LSD) will work.

you don;t need to buy a gsr/ITR ring gear because thats part of the final drive kit ...

I still can;t figure it out, everything physically fits in just closing the casing is a BITCH .. apparently the offset of a 4.4 or 4.7 final shifts the countergear shaft about 3/10ths " and the bearing doesn;t line up with the top casing ... same **** with the 94+ hydraulic LS trannies ... very weird.

honda trannies are very easy to work with, if you stick to one tranny. once you try to hybrid a honda tranny, things change! i my self have put together a hydro ls tranny, with a jdm cable S1 differential with the 4.40 fd ring! it ran just like a gsr except for third and fith gear, where it was a little slower than a gsr(but you couldn't tell unless i told you)! and i had seen a usdm ys1(non gsr), using a a gsr ys1 fd gear ring. that ran pretty good! my next project is to try to fit a type r 2/3/4 gears in a USDM ys1(ls) with a ys1 gsr 4.40 fd! hope it works! if it does, i'll top it off with a quaife lsd!
