Default Wiring help for VTEC

i almost have my swap done from an h23 to an h22. i have heard that there will be 3 new wires i must run. i have the electrical helms manual and the helms prelude shop manual, and it all looks greek to me. is there any person or site that can explain where the wires need to go in simple english step-by-step? any help would be great!

This might help. Even though the ECU pinouts say they are for a GSR, it doesn't matter because VTEC is wired up the same on all hondas that are OBDI

good luck!

click on the link, scroll down to the category of ECU pinouts. That tells you where the wires go for VTEC.

http://tech2.hybridgarage.com/ecu.php?ecutype=p72_obd1

that is the exact page that I was referring to

thanks, that helps a lot! i still have a few questions. such as how do i know which wires coming from the motor are the vtec wires? im using the existing h23 harness, so should i just look for 3 loose wires?

there were only 2 in the chart you had, but im assuming the 3rd is just a ground?

ive never wired anything to an ecu before, does the wire just go into a socket or do i have to do any soldering or anything?

you will have to add the wires to the H23 harnes (if you want it to look clean) or you can just run them straight from the VTEC solenoid and pressure switch to the ecu...it all depends on what you wanna do. As far as the ECU side of things, its better to have Honda Pins, so that they will just click into the harness itself...kindof a plug and play deal...

VTEC = 3 wires

2 wires to the ECU
1 for the Ground

ah, i see. i guess the only thing i need to do now is find a diagram that shows where the solenoid and the pressure switch is. my mechanic has never done a vtec swap, so im trying to gather as much info for him as possible. im not sure if those are obvious things that he will know, or if they are unique to a vtec engine. thanks for your help!

i went and looked at my engine today, and it seems i am going to have to use the h23 wiring harness. however, there is a wiring harness on ebay for a jdm vtec wiring harness for my car. is it better to use the wiring harness from the h23 or to buy the one for the h22? i have the money to buy it, and im looking for the easiest option. also, if i have to use the h23 harness, does that mean the edu pins will all fit into the new ecu?
