Adjusting clutch cable
I've adjusted clutch cables in other vehicles, but never my '89 CRX. The car has an Si tranny and DOHC ZC engine.
I figure the adjustment is on the tranny side, but I've been wrong before, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah...its on the tranny side. There is a little plactic piece on a threaded plastic piece.
Thats the best I could do while I was at work....
That white piece....
(I dont know if thats a civic cable...but you get the idea)

Plastic? Really? All the cables I've ever adjusted have been a steel threaded rod with an ajustment nut and a lock nut.
So it's the white piece that I turn right? to tighten the cable I would turn it... ummm... counterclockwise?

Actually I think its clockwise to tighten...The actual piece will be black though (usually) and its on the bracket on the very left side of the clutch. I think that bracket also has the tranny ground on it (it might just be near it though). I know the 'nut' is plastic, and im pretty sure the threaded sleeving is too.

there is a plastic nut that you turn. you should be able to see it right when you look on the tranny.
to tighten the cable you want to thread the nut in the tighten position, so clockwise.
this is all wishy washy for me though.

Hmmm, maybe I need more help. With the clutch fully depressed it will not go into gear smoothly, I have to press pretty hard. Not grinding, I think I just need to tighten my clutch cable some... does this sound right?
In the past with other 5 speeds I've had clutch cables streth on me bit, just assuming it's the same thing.

yeah that sounds like a stretched clutch cable.
i am a little bit unsure which way to turn the adjustment nut. if you want to tigthen the cable, you want to get more of the threads "higher" (for lack of a better word). as long as the plastic threads are not reverse threaded, then clockwise should do it.
you will know you are tightening the cable b/c the metal arm that actuates the clutch moves "up".
take a look at it and you'll see what i mean...

so i been messing around with mine for awhile since swap and been wondering the same thing.. how do you want your clutch tightened.. loose or tight, like how??
when i start my car in the morning i press the clutch of course to start it but once i get off my clutch pedal the car nudges forward alittle(when car idles nothing touched)... when i start my car in the morning the next day, this time i took ebrake off and then started it... the car started moving forward in nuetral on its own.

The cable should be adjusted until there is about 3/4 to 1 inch of pedal free play before you "feel" the clutch begining to resist. If you do not have enough free play the clutch can slip. Too much and it may not fully disengage the clutch. Turning the plastic nut clockwise removes free play and counter clock wise to increase it.

From what I understand the cable should not have any play at the release arm on the tranny.
My release is very low on the pedal(to the floor). I really hate it. But I don't want to overtighten the cable.

i read the book on clutch adj. and it siad (i think) 3-4mm of play at the tranny throw out beairng arm. but even then i still seem to need it to eb tighter btu as long as i am really nice when shifting it is fine, I woudl say find a cable honda that shifts good and see how teh tension is on his cable.

you might have tighten your clutch too much, and it grabs too much at the top...
