4th gen dash
Yeah, it's the schlitz... I suggest finding someone with a service manual, or get the service department to blow up a diagram like this one for you:

It's a beeothch, but not impossible. Take your time!! it's easy to bust all the little tabs off of stuff.

What Sephro said. You don't have to explode your dash like the picture describes. You just have to drop the steering column, and remove 6 (six) bolts. If I had a scanner, I'd show you. Go peek into a Chilton's manual and see.
Not that I've ever done it, and not that I'm saying it will be easy, but it should just work out.
By the way, I am not recommending that you buy a Chilton's manual. They suck.

i have a helms i used, but i couldve done it without... wasnt too complicated.
when i took mine out to replace my airbags, i started on the pass side and pulled the clipped-in parts first.. speaker covers, etc. then i took out the glove box to reach the other bolts underneath. how much are you taking out? are you completely stripping it? if youre pulling out just the glossy gauge covef, its not too bad. use a hairdryer when re-adhering the black strip that runs along the bottom of it. be careful when you take off the driver's side gauges. uhmm also if you break any clips, i suggest getting some heavy duty mechanic's tack (black sticky stuff) to secure the pieces so it wont rattle, but is still able to be pulled apart.
if you are going beyond just the gauges, then youll be finding bolts underneath first, and then youll get down to wher eyou can see a metal support that runs along the whole front inside the dash, its also what supports the steering column.
if you have airbags, i recommend disabling them as you do this by unplugging them from the yellow clip, and replugging em into the RED clip that is provided. you can see what the clips look like in these pics i took.

ask any more questions you may have! ive also got more pics....
