Default hi, I am new with a few questions

I was linked from HS and thought I'd pay you guys a visit. Hi.

Anyways I just got a 94 integra. The chasis is a GSR with 90k and the engine is off of a 97 ls with 60k.

1) how do I know which transmission I have of the two? the gsr or the ls transmission or they simply don't go together to begin with?

2) sunday (the day I bought the car) is my first time driving a stick... it's been only the 3rd day but I noticed when I idle after staring the engine, the rpm goes up and down many times when the car is in neutral. (jumps between 1k~2k) is this something I should worry about?

3) I'd like to get philips 4300k HID on my low beam. I searched around but can't find people with this kit on integras, I was just wondering if anyone knows if it's an good idea to have a retrofit HID kit behind projector based lighting system.

4) The car doesn't come with an alarm and that's actually something I'll going to get before the HID, someone already tried to steal my GSR rims when I left it out for a day. (2 lug nut was gone and I guess they eventually realized that it had wheel lock on it) do I need a helm's manual to know what wire does what? (for the alarm installation) if so, where do I find this helm's manual

thanks

Do a search on H.I.D. in this forum, and you'll find more than enough topics with pics discussed.

First, welcome to the board.
Secondly, yes the 4300k kit for a 9006 with the d2s bulb will work in your car. HOwever, you might get varied response as to whether you should do it on a car that has projectors meant for non HID regular halogen bulbs. But many people on this board have it and are very pleased with it, in particular i think the philips kits get the most praise.

I can't be sure about the helms manual being of any help to you in installing your alarm, cause imo i'd feel better getting it installed by a pro that has reputable work. HOwever, the helms manual is often referred to as teh "integra bible" on this board and others so its a worthwhile investment if you plan on workin on your car yourself. to purchase it go to http://www.helminc.com

Hope this helps you out a little.

1) how do I know which transmission I have of the two? the gsr or the ls transmission or they simply don't go together to begin with?
* Look on the front of the transmission, it should have a sticker. Report back with what it says...
2) sunday (the day I bought the car) is my first time driving a stick... it's been only the 3rd day but I noticed when I idle after staring the engine, the rpm goes up and down many times when the car is in neutral. (jumps between 1k~2k) is this something I should worry about?
* This is more of an annoyance than anything else. It's probably a vacuum leak. A good mechanic will find it in 5 minutes or less.
3) I'd like to get philips 4300k HID on my low beam. I searched around but can't find people with this kit on integras, I was just wondering if anyone knows if it's an good idea to have a retrofit HID kit behind projector based lighting system.
* Just search, lots of people have 'em here.

I am very concerned with the quality of jobs local shops do. Instead of "uninformed" eletrical mishaps or visiblity placed alarm brain/horn, I rather do it myself.

94TealGSR
1994 Integra Service Manual (61ST700) will this contain informations about which wires in my car does what? or do I need to get 1994 Integra Electrical Troubleshooting Manual (61ST700EL)
which is out of stock at the moment?

Just got it and someone already tried to jack the rims? Damn, sounds like you're in for more annoyances down the road.

good deal. otherwise, if the rims were to be jacked outside of your house, you could've guaranteed the thieves would be back again for rims...or maybe the whole car. Not trying to scare you but merely trying to warn you of the roaming epidemic.

1) GSR and LS trannys are the same except the GSR has a 4.4 FD. both suck

2) this might be a vacuum leak or it might be a busted IACV. do you have a check engine light on? if so it could be IACV or FICV. if not, it's prolly a vacuum leak or something else.

easy way to tell the difference between trannies...what is your rpm at in 5th gear at about 80mph?

I don't think so either.

And what's the deal with this GS-R chassis and LS engine? Is it a salvage title or something?

I have Phillips HID, and it's great, although it could be better with OEM HID projectors retrofitted in place of the halogen projectors. MTK Kommander can talk at length about that.

They do have different FD's, but 3rd, 4th, and 5th gear ratios are also different.

His wheels didn't get stolen, somebody attempted to steal them. Same thing happened to me about a week after I bought locks, I found one wheel missing all the lugs except the lock (and I had driven down the street and around the corner with it like that! ).

a note on the helms manual. I have both helms and hanes and im really not satisfied with either. If you really think that workin on the car yourself is osmehting you wanna get into i would strongly consider saving for an acura service manual. Very detailed and has part #'s listed right there and also tool recomendations. This might also be a good idea since you have a hybrid of sorts.

OH yeah, welcome to the boards

in regard to the idle problem, it only occur radomly (once every 2~10 seconds) when the car is cold, problem goes away once the car is warmed up. Think it's still a vacuum problem?

Let's take for a second and say it is vacuum problem, can I just get an intake to compensate for the faulty air box (I'm assuming that's the source of the problem?)

you guys've been very informative, thanks.

Isn't the GS-R tranny hydraulic while the LS is not? And yes the gears on the LS are longer.

The GSR and the LS tranny in 94-up integras have a hydraulic clutch throwout. The easiest way to tell which tranny you have is by the rpm on the freeway in 5 th gear. If you are at 60mph in 5th with a LS tranny you will be at like 2500rpms and a gsr you will be about 2900rpms.

Usually the bouncy idle at warm up or the too long of a bouncy idle is a result of tune up probs. Just needs a few things like PCV, fuel filter and maybe plugs. Those wont hurt. Also, run a self diagnostic...........OOO wait, dont know if this is possible but could be possibly have a GSR ECU?? Dont know but that may confuse the car some. IF not and it is indeed an LS computer, run a self-diagnostic for CEL codes. For further info on this porcedure do a search. This will inform you if perhaps your O2 sensor isn't functioning properly.

what is PCV?
is the fuel filter same as the oil filter replaced during 3k miles oil change?

also, is there a place like pricewatch but for auto parts?

Anyways I just got a 94 integra. The chasis is a GSR with 90k and the engine is off of a 97 ls with 60k.
given this situation, will an aem intake for 94+ non vtec work for my application? I called aem and they said they don't do support for hybrid
