after i got a new distrubitor, cap n rotor, time belt, bal shaft, and water pump.....my temp goes down when i start driving for about 5min and the warm air now turns to cool. those guys that did the work messed it up. how can i fix this? where is the problem? this is on my 92 accord lx

 

First check your coolant level. It may be too low for the temp sensor to read it.

 

That sounds like it might be thermostat related but you need to better describe your car's conditions...your very vague. The shop might've f-ed up the thermo-install and gummed it up to "stick in the 'open' position".

I don't think the coolant level / coolant temp sensor is related to your problems.

Pls describe something like: what happens when you start your car up from dead-cold in the morning and drive to work/school. What happens with the temps along the way? Be very precise if you can...

You need to have the air bled from the block. The air is allowing the temp to rise.

 

Ask the people at the place where you had this done,see what range thermostat they put in. Hey, even those suckers can be bad from the factory. You paid em, let them worry about it.

 

ok i have to warmup the car for a good 12-15minutes now compared to 7min. the car will have warm air by then...not hot like it was b4. then when i start to drive on local it goes down at a quick pace to the white line....if im on the highway it goes down quick below the white line and no warm air after 20min or more. i did it at some shop that claims to know it all but i guess they tampered the temperature while i had other things fixed. i didnt find this out until i drove home for a weekend...2.5hr drive freezing in the car home. its been about 2 months now since it was fixed with all the things mentioned on the 1st post. i never drive the car much b/c i take the bus to school...so whenever i drive it locally it has warm air.

 

it sounds to me like you have a thermostat stuck in the open possition, letting water pass by and sometimes "overcooling" your system, take it out and put it on boiling water and see if it opens, and make sure you have enough coolant and all the air is out of the system

ok seems like the problem happens when the weater is in the teens or lower. the past few days the heat is working normal again. its been in the 20s and 30s the past few. thx everyone
