i need some help please
my timing belt snapped .. do i have to take off the crank shaft pulley to change it .. if not what do i do? if so, do you have any tips or tricks for getting the pulley off because right now i cant get the crank shaft pulley nut off .. i even tried a impact gun .. it was a air impact it was a 110 impact gun ..
Not too sure what kind of ride you have. But I have a 91 CRX Si and just last month had to replace the timing belt for the same reason. Yes I did have to remove my crank pulley in order to remove the lower belt cover. I also had to remove the motor mount. If you go to http://www.CRXSi.com they have the WHOLE process for you (for a CRX anyway). Oh yeah by the way I was told that sometimes the bolt can be very difficult to remove. I used a 1/2 in. drive impact but was told by a mechanic that they will sometimes need to use a 3/4 in. drive impact!! Good luck man.
Try searching, I know that this ? has been addressed many times. Now that part is over
Yes you do have to pull off the pully, and yes it is the biggest pain in the *** part of the job. Your best bet is get a very long johnson bar and stick either a screwdriver in the flywheel or something like that and start pulling away. And you will have to take the motor mount off as well.

yeah you have to take off the pully. i just did my t-belt like 2 weeks ago. we just used a 17mm and a breaker bar, and had my friend hold the breaks!!! and that worked, was a little hard at 1st. then you take off the pully and the cover and you have access. also you do have to pull the motor mount.
i also heard you can stick a screw driver in to the trans [flywheel] and jam it then wrench it off, the pully.

Then changing of your timing belt might not be the worst case scenario.
There is a possibility that you could have bent valves or damaged pistons when your timing belt breaks. Have a decent mechanic buddy check it out for you.
